Is that 24% margin strictly on hardware sales? Because Apples makes a crap ton of revenue from selling music, movies, and apps on iTunes and the App Store and its mostly pure profit.
Apple doesn't break out margins on a per segment basis, so that would be overall. The gross margins have settled around 38% on a pretty stable basis.

30% cut from all app sales and all Apple does is provide a marketplace for users to download and pay for the app while the developers cover all the cost to create and maintain the app.
The App Store will soon become equivalent to a Fortune 100 company, all by itself. Amazing.

I hate Wal-Mart mainly due to their clientele. I have not been to one in years and I prefer to keep it that way.

frick Walmart. Pay your workers living wages and let them work more than 39 hours so tax payers don't have to pick up their insurance, etc.
So, are you telling me Mom & Pops pay living wages, provide benefits, don't make a profit. Get a clue.

As a former employee, a startling amount of loss would seem to come from stolen goods.
I cannot tell you the times per day is find anything from empty DVD cases, open and empty boxed goods, eaten deli food, etc. on the store floor and stuffed in shelves.
Their policy on eliminating theft is an embarrassment and basically non-existent from my experience working there.

you claim i stated VAST majority when in fact I said large number

I never once said that you stated "vast majority".
And to be exact, you actually said "large portion" not "large number" but who's counting?
Again - I dont even know WTF we're talking about now.
Maybe it would be easiest if you just clarify your original comment about a LARGE PORTION of the products being consignment. What % (approximately of course) of all products were you referring to? Keep in mind, you used all caps LARGE PORTION really emphasizing just how large of a portion exists.

Your post --> One thing they don't mention is a LARGE portion of the inventory in walmart stores is there on consignment (for lack of a better word). Walmart does not pay the mfg/distributor for it until in scans thru a register

The tech company uses cheap third world labor to make their product. Walmart has to at least pay minimum wage to all their cashiers, shelf stockers, etc.
This is a joke right? Where do the majority of Walmarts products come from? You realize Apple has over 80,000 employees in the US?

can't post a percentage..for starters I have no clue the total number of vendors worldwide walmart has. What I do know what I stated is fact based on experience. Caps was used so you would see the word, not for any reason you might want to try and place on my words.

Walmart could save a shite load of money if they would only build 1/4 of the number of registers in each store. They NEVER have more than 1/4 of them open at any given time, if even that many. Not even on Christmas. Also, they could stop moving out of a perfectly good building, into a brand new one right down the block every 10 years. They could also cut costs by no longer rearranging merchandise 180 degrees in stores so that I'm not totally fricking lost on the occasions when I have to go there.
TLDR...frick Walmart!

I just left from Walmart and the guy that waited on me doesn't deserve a living wage. Doesn't deserve to have a job. The guy was ignorant as a third grader. Had no people skills and it was excruciating just having to deal with him.
So no, just because you have a job doesn't mean you should be paid any more than minimum wage.
They shouldn't hire him then.
When you pay your employees shite, you get shite people coming to work for you.

betcha very few of Apple's US employees are making minimum wage, and most have benefits. Their corporate culture is pretty good over here in Cupertino. Would be nice is they manufactured over here, but people can barely afford iPhones now.

Grocery store selling cheap shite from China isn't as profitable as a tech company. Who knew?
Apple doesn't pay Chinese company Foxconn all that much for the phones either.

As opposed to Amazon who employs no one locally?
This can't be serious. Amazon has more than 200,000 employees in the U.S. and is set to top 300,000 by the end of next year.
They're about to be the largest employer in the state of Kentucky, for instance, outside the state government.

The iphone has creates some negative developments, but on net it is one of the greatest inventions of all time.
In what way? It doesn't do anything new it just makes everything easier. Unfortunately the thing it makes easiest is enabling and promoting laziness which is not really something that is in the best interest of society in any way.

Apple's not a total miser. For example, they do subsidize Foxconn's suicide netting.

It (really smart phones and their role with the internet in general) has connected people and sped up the sharing of information in a way that had barely even been imagined. It has introduced efficiencies in ways that can't even start to try to enumerate here and are being expanded upon every day.
Let's ask you this. Is not every great invention just something that allows people to be lazy? That's what efficiency is. Being able to do more with less. Whether it is the wheel all the way up to super computers.
