As our wonderful Parish Council approves the sale for $ 10,000...which is only about 740,000 under valued.

When the sale went before the Metro Council, no one batted an eye. In fact, the council had to approve several measures to allow the land to be designated as surplus, go to auction and approve the auction, and council members did not discuss the matter at all.

Is this the same corner they are building the bank on that says it's been serving the local area for a long time but no one has ever heard of the bank? If so, either way that place is going to be a fricking nightmare to get in and out of and is going to make that intersection even more of a cluster frick.

These land deals are rare, he says, and the city would have to bear the cost of a commercial appraisal, which can run a couple thousand dollars.

The land was sold at public auction, right?

I don't think anything shady was done. The auction was advertised properly.
Seems like a straight forward sale should have been done, but governments usually don't care about being for profit.

Yep and he was the only one that showed. He could have bid $500

This stinks and the taxpayers in the city ought not let this slide. This literally took ~$900k out of our parish budget.

It's the corner across Jefferson from the new bank.

Here ya go.
BR Business Report Article about the deal
Alotta Jimmy's oughta be rustled. This bullshite is no more ethical and 'fair' to the Taxpayers than Broome's Brave contracts.
quote:
Former Metro Councilman Ryan Heck carried the deal through the process last year. Several years earlier, Cosman—a friend and Heck campaign contributor—had asked him for help buying a separate, 22,000-square-foot plot of wooded land behind his house, and Heck obliged. Cosman got that piece of land at auction for $50,000 after another bidder showed up.

i have a friend that owns 400 acres with 2 private lakes and cabins on them that he bought for 20k at an auction. he was the only bidder.
land is probably worth 2-3mm today. it happens. but this seems moderately shadier.

Yea, he didn't have a councilman helping him out and making sure the public didn't get more than the bare minimum notice of these land deals.
