My puppy has been my underfoot, loving, adventurous, mischievous and always playful friend. She was my hiking buddy, kayaking buddy, camping buddy, fishing buddy, watching sports on TV buddy and overall awesome friend to me and my family.

Today, I had to make the decision to let her cross the rainbow bridge. One of the hardest and saddest days of my life.

Remember, while she was a part of your life....you were her whole life.

Condolences.

As you grow older, this will happen over and over.It is sad that dogs have a much shorter life span. Sorry for your loss. Good luck with your next pup.

I'm sorry, S'Tiger... You shared a beautiful life with her and no doubt she's waiting for you on the other side. All dogs really do go to Heaven.

At 17 years, that wasn't a decision you had to make. That was just part of the process. It doesn't make it any better, but you didn't really make this decision. A decision means there was another option, and sadly, there wasn't.

Drink a beer and remember the good times

I lost the best dog I ever had to cancer just over two years ago. I will always carry that grief with me, but over time you will learn to live with it even if you don't believe that now. I hope you can find some peace.

Best thing you can do is get another pup and start the cycle of life all over again. You may not believe that right now, but it's true.

Heart broken just reading this.

Rip little buddy. The loyalty and love they give us is wild considering humans can be so fricking evil.

God speed sir

I'm really sorry for your loss. We had to let our little guy go this past Saturday and it still hurts. I can tell you that the grief comes in waves. Sometimes it washes over you, sometimes you ride them, but they always pass

Either way, don't judge yourself for how you feel. I've been amazed at how many people open up if you share with them. I've had some tough dudes at my jiu-jitsu gym nearly break down telling me about their similar experiences losing pets over the years

Hang in there

I thought I was going to read about how OP's wife told him a really big and important lie 17 years and 9 months ago. But fortunately it's just about a dog.

I’m so sorry. The most selfless act of love is the most painful to us. May memories bring smiles and comfort. I’ll probably be downvoted, but I think we see them again one day. If we humans can enter heaven, our pets certainly deserve it. Dog is God backwards and sent from God to show us His unconditional love.

That sucks in the worst way possible. Did the same a little over two years ago and it still feels like a kick in the head. Time does make it better but honestly, it’ll fade but never go away. That’s how you know it was a great relationship. The fact that it hits you that hard says a lot of good about you. Cheers, mate!

Sounds like she was just as lucky to have you as you were to have her. A full, loving life she had. I would guess that the majority of dogs don’t have lives nearly that good. Keep that with you.
