Flying with a dog

Bringing dog with us for thanksgiving. Flying delta out and American Airlines back. Both seem like they have pretty clear instructions on what to do. She’s small and well behaved so we can just get a small kennel pay the fee both ways and she won’t be a problem.
It seems like each airline is a little different though in what they need. American Airlines wants a heads up a dog will be on the plane. Delta didn’t mention it.
I’ve never done this before so curious if anyone has any tips or things like that. What should I know so I don’t get to the airport and they don’t let her or us on the plane for some reason?

Its he that flies, the dog doesn't possess the same powers of levitation. Maybe the dog provides propulsion.

We had a dog fly to Germany and back with us, of course he didn't fly in the cabin and he was fine, he was the best mutt we ever had.

I'd like to bring ours on a plane trip, but I don't know if he can deal with being in a crate with no one else around the whole time. He already throws a fit when he's in the car and it idles.

Pretty sure there is no way they would let ours fly in the cabin. He weighs over 100 lbs.

I might give the dog some kind of anxiety or calming meds before boarding the plane.

Airlines prefer to know how many passengers are travelling with pets in the cabin because they try to limit the number of animals onboard. As long as you buy the pet fare ahead of time and you'll be fine.
Make sure to buy an airline approved carrier. Soft-sided ones are fine. Consider asking your vet for an anti-anxiety prescription for your dog. If you have a long layover take the time to get you dog out for relief, which may mean leaving the terminal area and having to go back through security (dog crated of course). Don't be an a-hole and let your dog roam around either in the airport or on the plane.

Why are people giving him a hard time? I would take my dog with me. If she's small, put her in one of those popup kennels, and she can ride between your lets on the floor, you can take her out and hold her during flight.
And yes, perhaps some anxiety meds just in case.

With American, you better do it as soon as possible. They place a limit on how many dogs can come on each flight.
There's also a 20 lbs. weight limit. However, from my experience, they let it go up to about 25 lbs. as long as your dog can stand up and turn around in the carrier.
Finally, dogs with smooshed-in faces can only fly in the cabin. Think Pekingese, Pug,, Shih Tzu, Chin, etc.
