Do whatever you must to leave kids at home. Everyone on that plane will hate you.

You should get each of your kids an emotional support animal.
That'll definitely help, plus everyone around you will be even more grateful.

He gets plenty of arse whipping but he's smart enough to recognize places where he can push the limits because I need him to be quiet and he doesnt give a shite about "the look" yet.

When my kids were little we had a pharmacist compound something up called phenegrin (something like that) to make them sleepy but we never braved a flight longer than 2.5 hours. Godspeed to you.

Could your kids just FaceTime your sister?

As soon as you get on the plane, beat them both enough to make everyone around you uncomfortable. Then proceed to get hammered.
Everyone will feel bad for the kids and won't mind the crying.

Why bring the kids at all?
If you have to, I’d leave the soon to be 2 year old home and just bring the 4 year old.

If you know the 2yo is an "absolute terror" consider what you are deliberately putting the rest of that plane through.

Skype, pointless to take your kids on a trip that they will NEVER remember.

Was looking for opinions of people who may have had a similar experience. But it appears no one was dumb enough to try that.

Just a FYI. I know most major carriers still require a payment for infant in arms on international. It’s not free like domestic.
On the flight we took with our 18 month old, the price difference on infant in arms vs. a seat was so negligible that we just bought them a seat...then they can just sit in their car seat.
Assuming you’re heading east or south the outbound flight is a breeze. Keep them up, feed them once you’ve boarded, and maybe some Tylenol...and they’ll sleep the majority of the flight.
The way back it was obviously daytime. So we just did our best between feeding, games, movies, to make do.

My now 2 year old has flown 10 times. It’s not that big of a deal. The only tantrums on our flights have been from adults who immediately assume the kid is going to act up/fuss.
Even better when they’re seated next to you holding them in your upgraded first class seat

Yeah it's not free on international flights. About 15% in this case

If you willingly take a kid on a flight from the US to China that you know is a ‘terror’ you deserve to have your assbeat not once, but by every person that plane.

Too late. The cheap option is skype/facetime because you already have the internet.
Or, alternatively, flying your sister to come see you.

longest segment is about 12.5 hrs.
So it's not just 12.5 hours?
You need to consider layover time, changing planes, and getting through customs since you're entering another country.
Hats off; you're braver than I.
