I'm in West Baton Rouge parish. At 8:30 I was pulling on the generator trying to start it. Sure enough it started to snow. A very light snow. Then the generator started. It was a magic moment.

The Mayor of New Orleans cancelled Mardi Gras so Jesus and the Easter Bunny said hold my beers.

When has it snowed on Mardi Gras day in south LA, before today?

Yeah I live in Geismar too. It was about five minutes and then stopped. My little girl was excited.

I’m from upstate New York - the specific area along Lake Ontario north of Syracuse most famous for lake effect snow and crazy low temperatures. I lived a decade in Colorado ( very mild by comparison). I’m here to tell you 20 degrees and wind in Louisiana feels about as cold as I have ever been. I’m not sure why but it just does.

Yep. I lived a brief stint in Colorado as well (3 years). You're exactly right. The moisture in the air laughs at layers. You could be wearing ten layers right now and it still cuts through every last one.

Same in Colorado. Who cares if it’s 37 if the sun is blazing. Throw on some shirts, a tshirt or 2 and a fleece and you are good. This is a different bone- chilling animal.

We grew up in the same stretch, between Syracuse and Watertown, on the east end of Lake Ontario. It feels that way to you because you're older and don't see Upstate winters year after year anymore. Got that thin Southern blood now, ooh it's 50 degrees out, better grab my coat.

That's how I felt when we went to Tahoe. It didn't feel that cold at all and it was snowing like crazy. I just had on a shirt and a jacket on the mountain.

Never been able to explain it.

I camped on northern lake Michigan a few years ago in the dead of winter. It was cold. But at no point did my damned bones ache.
