Private bus companies use the interstate. I would be against a government intercity bus service operating at a loss.
And some bus companies depend on subsidies for regional transportation needs. I think Greyhound started a route several years ago that goes between New Orleans and Baton Rouge via stops in Thibodaux and Houma. I think the state pitched in some cash to make the route viable for few folks that use it.

Connecting the Florida cities makes sense. Could probably do the same in Texas and California and maybe DC-Boston. Otherwise most places are too far apart and planes would be far better.
I think Brightline is pursuing an LA to Vegas route next.

The population density in South Florida is way bigger than NOLA and BR and it’s not even close.
I tried explaining this to my coworkers during their excitement over the latest “announcement.” It fell on deaf ears

How long between Miami and Orlando, and does it stop in Fort Lauderdale?

New York to St. Louis? Maybe. To Seattle? Probably. To Washington DC? No. Baton rouge to New Orleans or Florida? Nah.
Then over time maybe you link them up.

I guess it depends on your luggage demands but you can fly miami to orlando for 79 and the flight is an hour so you probably save 1.5-2 hours of time.
It's already been tested. Flying saves about 30 minutes. You can work the entire time comfortably on the train as opposed to maybe only 45 minutes of work on the plane.
Each has it's advantages, it's a pretty close call and will probably just depend on the needs of the individual.

I've been aboard. It's nice.

The fact the US doesn’t have high speed rail available nationwide is a disgrace.
It's a big country - and only a handful of regions have clusters of cities that can support it in a way that air travel would be more costly/more time consuming.
Northeast+ Mid Atlantic
Chicago/Great Lakes
Texas
Gulf Coast/Florida
California
That's about it. And most of the above that isn't built are under construction or at least in the planning stages.

Yeah, It's def not a "high speed" train.
Top speed is 125 mph but that’s only for a section up near Orlando.

It really isn’t. We don’t need them and they typically are drains on the taxpayers.

We spend all our money on building strip malls.
Rails like this connecting major airports is a great idea. I wonder if this expands to other states and cities, how would the price compare to airlines.
Wonder what a trip from Miami to Charlotte (if there was an existing high speed rail) would cost compared to flying...
With this one leg costing $91, I could see it possibly costing more to travel by rail. Also, this leg takes almost 4 hours. Anyway to shorten that? Is the train hitting it's top speeds?
Non-stop between cities would be a must.

Brightline is awesome and shows what we should be doing with intercity rail --- build nice stations, run frequent trains, and develop the surrounding real estate to help pay for the service.
To all the other dumb comments, air travel and interstates are not great economic infrastructure decisions, they only work because the government pays for the infrastructure. Period. Other countries have better rail service because they invest in the infrastructure, no reason we can't have it here, its policy not, cost.

Have you tried getting to MIA/FLL TSA right now post-Gaza? It's a nightmare at times. You may save maybe an hour tops if you account for all the time you spend waiting to actually get on and off the plane. It's also highly impractical to fly from Fort Lauderdale to Orlando when it's about a 3.5 hour drive. Brightline just saves you the trouble of having to drive to those destinations.

Americans ain't ever going to use rail like people in other nations do because Americans are opposed to walking. Trains are great but they generally do not provide service to within 100 feet of the door to WalMart...but handicapped parking spaces do if you're lucky and going when they aint too busy....

Have taken Brightline 50+ times for work between FLL and MIA. It's by far the best transportation we have and I cannot wait to take it to Orlando. It's pricey, but if you plan, you can get good deals. Hope they keep expanding it.
