My son aged 16 at the time went to use charcoal lighter fluid to start the pit. Grabbed a can of acetone since it looked like the charcoal lighter fluid and soaked the pit well. the pit blew up when matched. Been much more careful reading labels since.

There was no need to use any accelerant. The fire was already going earlier. She put a log in and it didn't automatically light up so she used gas. The log would have lit on its own of she had patience.

I read shite like this and I’m just flabbergasted that I’ve not killed myself.

We always poured it in a cup and tossed at the fire from 10+ feet away

That's awful. Maybe use lighter fluid instead.

As HS and college kids we would use red solo cups filled with gas to get the bonfire going again.

Gasoline isn't explosive. Gasoline vapor is.

Random fun fact...flour dust is also explosive.

Why is someone in Tampa needing to keep a fire going? It probably was a low of 65 degrees

It’s pretty amazing how bundled up people get in south Florida when the temps drop into the upper 60s.
