Sometime in the early to mid 1990s my Dad was working at a powerhouse in Alabama, pimping for an electrician welder. He somehow had a piece of steel fly up his nose from a grinding disc. He was, apparently, bleeding like a stuck pig. He said his entire shirt and pants were soaked from his nose to his feet and it was POURING out. They called an ambulance and rushed him to a hospital where they staunched the flow of blood and removed the piece of metal.

About the time they were finishing up someone from TVA showed up and asked the medical staff if they had drug tested him. They said no and the TVA rep said they needed to drug test him. The attending doctor told them to go ahead but he was going to certainly test positive for cocaine use because the compound they used to stop the flow of blood was mostly cocaine. They didn't bother to drug test him - may be the only reportable injury case in TVA history since drug testing has been a thing when the injured party was not drug tested.

I kind of always thought he might be stretching the truth about this, he was a fisherman so it would not have been out of character. I googled that shite and it is certainly something that was and still is being used clinically to stop or severley slow down blood flow, particularly in the throat, nose and eyes.
