Key West to me is a day trip when staying in the keys. It is certainly not my ideal destination. It’s a great spot to find a multitude of fishing charters, but you can find charters up and down the keys maybe just not as plentiful as Key West.

Shoot, more like one cop or trooper every mile. Plaquemines Parish speed traps ain’t got nothing on them.

Yeah sounds like a good idea. Until you see that it's around $900 for a family of four to catch ferry to spend half a day out there

And there it is

Key West is real easy to enjoy for 5 days. In the mornings you do something in the water. Go on a half day charter fishing trip one day, my last trip I caught an 80lb tarpon in sight of the balcony of my hotel room and crushed a bunch of Mangrove Snapper. We got the snapper cleaned at the dock, sat at the Marina bar and they cooked our snapper while we drank, delicious. We were back in the hotel pool at 1:30. 4pm we bar hopped until dinner. Next day, we took a sandbar charter in the morning, swam and drank beer on a sandbar walked with Lemon Sharks and Barracuda. Back at hotel pool for 1, bar hopping by 330, dinner for sunset at Latitudes. Next day we did Jet Ski tour of the island in the morning, wash rinse repeat. NeXT day bounced around key west all day hit museums etc. Next day snorkeled. People don't research the keys and key west before they go then bitch and complain bc they aren't Turks and Caicos. It's a very clean and safe French Quarter with a tropical vibe that is on the water. You hit the water in the morning and then you bounce around and drink and eat in the evenings.

Best stop is Islamorada to fish. Other than that it's meh. Naples is much much much nicer.

You don’t go to the Keys to sit on the beach. You also don’t stay in hotels there. Keys are for fishing, diving, boating and pub crawling at the end of the day. Nice place for history and architecture, too.

What does a half-day fishing charter likely cost?

friend of mine owns a charter boat there, one of the best in Key West, I think they’re getting $1200 right now, pretty good bump from a couple of years ago but they usually put you on the fish

I grew up there, then lived there again for a few years late 90s. I don’t go back. The water is amazing, no other redeeming qualities.

If Mike Leach were still around I’d think about seeing what the keys are like.

We were there a few weeks ago. Great little bungalow hotel on Truman, less than a half block from Duval. Had a fricking blast. Not a beach town. Snorkeling, sunset sails, pub crawls, some museums, great little bars with live music, cool food spots. Learn how to relax without sand up you a$$!
