Funny you bring this up. Police shoot 4 year old girl while trying to kill their dog. Little girl then asks "Mommy am I going to die?" after being shot by police.
Want to know what happened to the cop after he walked away and drove away and the neighbors had to call for an ambulance? Zero. Nada. Zilch.
So in answer to your question, nothing would have happened if the cop had shot a child behind the dog.
That one was like a really bad Family Guy episode. Woman cuts her arm on some glass and needs medical attention so she calls 911. Cop is closest and shows up to see if he can help. Upon arrival he feels threatened by the dog so he goes to shoot it and shoots the 4yr old. Now mom AND daughter need medical attention. fricking A Cotton!!

Pit bull mix, even worse. Just enough mix of aggression and playfulness to get you to let your guard down. I love dogs but if I see a leashed pit bull coming down the street I'm taking my kids and crossing to the other side.

Can't watch. Won't watch. Have too much of a heart for pets, especially dogs.

Is it sad that this is exactly the quality of person I expect in police encounters? I stopped getting angry about incidents like this and have accepted reality- How I stopped worrying and learned to love our dangerous and incompetent police force.

Anecdotal but we owned a lab/pit mix when I was a kid. Generally a good dog but as he got older became more and more aggressive towards other dogs and children. Definitely not the lovable black lab side of him.
And while I don't trust pit bulls in general, and certainly not around my kids, it's more I don't trust shitty owners. 90% of pit bull owners own them for their ferocity and aggressiveness, not so they can cuddle with them on the couch.

That's not even remotely true.

My bad, I meant most owners have pits so they can take badass selfies with them to post on FB.

Just because they are associated with general thuggery doesn't really mean anything. There are millions of pit bulls in the U.S. alone and it looks like pit bulls are averaging about 15-20 deaths per year since 2011. They are powerful dogs. They're incredible sweet and smart dogs that really should only be owned by experienced dog owners.

So as a homeowner who has a gun by the front door; had I instantly bailed out the front door and put 10 rounds in his arse for shooting my dog would I go to jail for killing a police officer?

Yes, if you survived. That officer was quick to draw and a pretty good shot in a stressful situation.
In that situation, you should also go to jail for being a dumbass who allows his dog to charge at a police officer.

Was this pet even a Pit mix? Stories I've seen say bully mix. Bully breeds include many more dogs than just a Pit.

Would you go to jail for shooting someone who ran a red light and crashed into your 2015 Dodge Viper?
Animals are considered property despite our emotional attachment to them.

My first thought - Thank god it wasn't a white cop.
Second thought - Woman at the door seemed to be trying to hold dog back. Dog didn't appear to be charging friendly like.
Third thought - the term Bully Mix is just a toned down version of "pitbull". Why would they want to tone down the type of dog they had in the print?
Fourth Thought - Perhaps if they had trained their pitbull not to bolt out of open doors it would still be alive.
I'll vote justified, I wouldn't wait to get bit to find out whether or not a charging dog was nice or not either.

again with blaming the owners
cops goes on private property where no crime had taken place, nor was he called, knocks on door, dogs comes out of door, cop shoots dog because he was scared and its the owners fault
god damn the way some of you people think is horrifying
