Same thing happened here when they opened floodgates during our flood last year. One could argue that they accepted the risk when they lived in a flood zone.

Flood victims from all around Newton County are discussing a a potential class action lawsuit against the Sabine River Authority.
The SRA is the agency that runs the Toledo Bend Reservoir and controls the releases from the dam that flooded the Sabine River Basin this week.
While many in Newton County are working to deal with the flooding there are some that are planning legal action.
A group of people on Facebook are planning a meeting tomorrow at 5 p.m. in Deweyville, at Paw-Paws, to discuss plans for a class action suit against the SRA.
The group maintains that the water release from Toledo Bend was mismanaged and that this was a key factor in the flooding along the Sabine River.
SRA spokesperson Ann Galassi tells 12News that the SRA has guidelines it has to follow and those cant be altered based on forecasted weather.
Galassi says the guidelines are designed to protect the infrastructure of the dam. She said a contributing factor was the amount of rain at the Toledo Bend Reservoir.
Toledo bend got twice the amount of rainfall as in a typical event.

Correct. They can't just drain the lake down several feet in anticipation of rain.
This was an unprecedented rain event. The SRA has zero control over that and I don't know how much of a difference them drawing it down really would have made.

I don't know what will happen there, but here people who have to rebuild are facing tons of restrictions, the biggest of which is that they have to raise the house if they want to build in the same spot. It is enough to where a lot of people are simply being forced to move. It is unfortunate, but you can't blame the people in charge of the dam.

Not at all.
If anything, this cleaned up a lot of meth labs because there were a ton of them in the piney woods by the Sabine.

that sounds like an interesting ecological/environmental discussion

The dam is really all that matters and should be their primary focus. Their houses, plus tens of thousands of other houses, would be in way worse shape if the dam broke.
I'm sure these people are just irrationally angry at the moment and I don't blame them. Don't think suing the SRA is the way to go though, unless there's some other information out there that I'm not aware of.

As true as that may be, I don't think you can hang your hat on that in court.

BTW LA did the same thing to certain parishes here after Rita and Katrina for which the road home program was pretty much born which lead to a lot of fraud in the state and also the state owing FEMA a lot backpay.

I didn't say that. Just thinking outloud.
FYI the Sabine was going to flood no matter what in this situation. There wasn't much else the SRA could have done. People are saying they could have drawn the lake down prior like other lakes in the area did but the other lakes aren't the monster Toledo is. Bundick in DeRidder drew down prior but it's pond compared to Toledo and there aren't a lot of houses below the damn for it to affect.

Road Home $$$$ for house raising companies. They can go from charging $25k to $125k overnight

The government has immunity for many types of activities. There is a federal immunity for damages caused by flood control activities. I'd imagine Texas has something similar. That lawsuit won't get very far.

Mother Nature has been added as an additional defendant

Brother nature is the main cause of problems down here. Can't sue anyone for that
