I worked with a guy that slipped and fell off the Exxon big foot offshore rig at Keiwitt near Corpus Christi. He was tied off but dangling 250 feet above the water for a few minutes.
He could hardly climb after that, mostly ran a forklift.
Seen people survive 20 foot falls through scaffolding and die from a 2 foot fall off a ladder.

Tom Petty met him at the Pearly Gates singing “Free Fallin’”.

You think he was valued for handkerchiefs?

I thought of this thread when the snowpocalypse hit Texas. I was using hiking boots to walk around my property. I made one exception to step a few feet out my front door in flip flops and almost died.

I would imagine that first impact knocked him out. Or at least I hope it did.

Good thing you don't live at the top of a waterfall, or you would have been a goner for certain.
In all seriousness, though, ice can frick a Southerner up with the quickness. We once had an older family member visiting from Michigan. My mom had taken her out shopping and it started to snow. They managed to get home and mom was trying to make sure her aunt was being careful and wouldn't fall.....yep, my mom was the one who busted her arse, and was sore for a while. Her aunt, in her 70s at the time, just kind of laughed at her.
