Baton Rouge Metro Airport’s direct flight to Washington, D.C
It was a stupid route to begin with. BTR to MCO would’ve been an instant hit if the prices were reasonable.

don't even see the area supporting that, maybe a seasonal route

I think it could be year round, but probably just weekend schedules.

I am a delta person and envy the multiple options AA has out of BTR. I would love BTR-MSP or BTR-DTW to allow for a wider range of connecting options.

Most underrated airport in the US.

This is fair. - probably the easiest airport I use. When I’m in BR and need to fly out of there I’ll gladly pay an extra $100 or so to not go to MSY.
Using IAH regularly will spoil you though with the direct flights available pretty much anywhere.

This. It's weird that so many people automatically default to MSY, but I assume they just don't fly enough to know when one is better than the other. Here's a few pointers: 1) American Airlines is generally the same pricing as MSY if you book 2+ weeks in advance. Plus, the E175s are very comfortable, no middle seats, you don't have to leave your bags in the jetway, etc. 2) For some reason, United and Delta are generally $100 or so more expensive at BTR if 2+ weeks out. Alot more if within that timeframe. They suck. 3) Go MSY if they have a direct flight that BTR doesn't. Delta and American have numerous direct flights out of MSY that they don't have in BTR (NYC, Miami, etc.) Plus, Southwest has a ton of options out of MSY. This does indeed save time. 4) Cost notwithstanding, BTR is generally better if there's a connecting flight. People like to say it only takes an hour more to go to MSY, but that's wrong. I can literally leave my house an hour before a BTR flight departs, drive there, park, and get through security, etc. If MSY, you have the extra hour drive, plus you have to add at least 45 minutes for unexpected traffic (especially around Laplace for some reason), 15 minutes for more difficult parking, and at least 45 additional minutes for security. Even their PreChek lines are often bad. So, MSY requires leaving AT LEAST two hours earlier and I would say 2.5 hours. Plus, there's the added benefit of getting home within 15 minutes after the return flight. Long story short, there's a time for both IMO -- depending on circumstances.

BTR doesn't fit in to Southwest's operational demographic as a 737 would be extremely hard to fill, especially considering their large operation down the road at MSY.
I’m curious as to what % of Southwests MSY passengers are from the Baton Rouge area.

I flew to DC a lot earlier this year from the NY airports.
DCA is okay for shuttle routes, but frick Dulles — that has to be one of the worst airports in America for several reasons.

I’ve only flown in and out of there for work and it’s been a long time but those people eaters would have been a pain in the arse as a traveler

AND when i have priced the difference BTR is only a few 10s of bucks more expensive which IMO is negligible compared to driving 2 hours
I just did a random test. Dec 7-10 round trip to DCA nonstop.
$428 from BTR. One flight option.
$222 from MSY. Three flight options.
And the kicker.. same freaking airline

Why fly from BTR when you can take the once a day train to MSY and fly from there?

Just that if American Airlines doesn’t want their BTR flights to be half full then maybe they shouldn’t undercut themselves $200+ at the neighboring airport.

We don't have time to go down the Revenue Management black hole

I’ve flown to Denver, Albuquerque, Jacksonville, Tampa, all direct. If I want to go to any major city out of BTR that isn’t TX I’m required to have some type of layover of fly at the worst hours available as mentioned my reply.
Bags? I usually bring something to or from where I’m staying because I travel for occasions. I also have a child I have to bring and we need the room for the baby and my wife.
Call me a diva, but I’m going to have at least one or two outfit options per day on an out of country trip. God knows what will happen and I don’t plan on doing laundry until I come back home.
I just looked up flights for last minute trips between ATL to BTR and ATL to MSY.
BTR was $1000 with only 6am options and a 6 hour layover in Texas both ways.
MSY was $400 with an available afternoon flight. Both one ways.
Planning ahead for those would obviously be cheaper but you’re lying to yourself if you truly thing you’re saving $ and time by flying out of BTR. I’m only ever flying someplace it would take more than 7 driving hours/500 driving miles because I’d rather let someone else do the traveling for me. I’ll take the 1 hour drive to NOLA, 1 hour spent at the airport, +time to get to my destination. A two hour flight to South Florida beats the 11 hour drive while speeding.

Surprised they wanted a DCA flight and not an ORD flight.
There use to be a direct BTR to ORD flight in 2006ish.

I said there’s no need for a flight to DC when American (Eagle) already flies to Charlotte.
The problem is that the male AA pilots are reportedly unable to locate CLT regularly.
