A roll of FLEX TAPE 4 in. W X 5 ft. L is $15.
Might be cheaper to rebuild after a flood

Bout as stupid as the weather channel idiots standing in knee deep water or even worse, tropical storm winds.

Dumbest thing I’ve seen since Vegematic (which at least worked…for two or three times).

They ought to get sued for false advertising. Water pressure would bust those windows quickly unless those are some special windows

I've only seen their demo pictures, nothing in real life, but the specs they were quoting suggested something like an expected 75 year lifespan.
Somebody tell Elon to get on it.

Flood Insurance is cheaper.
If you have a storm coming and you know it’s going to be bad, that is why you evacuate and take as many precious memories with you when you leave. You have no idea what you could be coming back home too.

I have always wondered if a waterproof home could be done without jacking the costs up too much. Similar concept to those bath tubs for old people that have doors in them.
The short answer is no. An oversimplified analogy would be try living inside of a Yeti.
I build coastal homes in VE flood zones and I will build one as storm "proof" as the customer is willing to go. At some point, every customer that has pursued that goal inevitability butts up against their definition of livability or cost effectiveness/budget well before we exhaust all methods of the technology available to make the home even more storm "proof". Obviously flood "proof" is a different animal, but the premise remains the same.

Perhaps I’m too brand loyal, but I think you’d be better off coating your home in ShamWows

I simply just don't have that kind of confidence in residential building enclosure and today's building practices to withstand all that water pressure.

The walls of a house aren't waterproof. As soon as water gets above the foundation it's coming in. When he said it would slow down water, that seems true. But no house that I know if is water proof.

He's already done that. The Tesla solar roof is supposedly pretty damn durable in addition to its ability to generate power.

I envision having like a 5 foot high wall of tarp. IT comes rolled in like 250-500 linear feet that you literally wrap the bottom of your house with.
That way you only have to worry about flex sealing the bottom line of tarp to your house foundation somehow.

I'm not 100% convinced that it's more like a yeti than a maw maw tub. A home can have venting and stuff over 6' high, and just protect against more common floods that are under 4'.
Rebuilding after a flood is pretty costly, not to mention traumatic.

At some point the question becomes: if you’re building a home and really want it to be impervious to flooding, why not just elevate the house?
