New Orleans and Louisiana treat its tax paying citizens who contribute far more than they receive like garbage. You have one shot at life, why spend the majority of that time in a 3rd world dump when we have the freedom to live better.
Until Louisiana starts treating its tax paying citizens like good private sector companies treats their key customers the brain drain and flight will continue.
NOLA and JBE won’t care, but someone like Saint5446 fleeing is devastating to the city and state from a tax contribution standpoint that those remaining will have to cover.

We moved out of the Garden District last April and it was the best decision we have ever made. Kids don’t want to go back because of the freedom they have now. Lease expired at Place St Charles a few months ago and now I’m 100% Orleans Parish free.

Here's what Fairhopians (or whatever they're called) say about Daphne... "No one lives in Daphne".
That’s uppity people and reflects on them. Beautiful parts of Daphne on the bay, downtown, and by Bayside Academy.
Lake Forest area is dated, but nothing wrong with city of Daphne. It would be one of the nicer 20,000 population towns if in Louisiana.

I would definitely consider somewhere in Tennessee maybe north or near Nashville. Has 4 seasons, only a few hours drive to Nola. I have defended Louisiana all my life until a few years ago. Can’t do it anymore. Born and raised in Lakeview but got married and moved and built on the Northshore.
I love where we live in Madisonville/Covington area, but I am noticing more and more litter wherever I go in Louisiana. It’s a welfare state now, sadly.

Thanks for the sentiment. Agree. Not to sound arrogant but everytime a producer like myself who employs a lot of people gets fed up and leaves, the burden is a little greater on those who stay. I have a great life here, but if I’m honest myself this place is going to be a lot worse in the next 5-10 years. Not just the city, the state.

Ukraine has prettier women than Louisiana

Im not saying the OP should move out of NOLA.. and im not saying the OP *shouldnt* move out of NOLA… but if one is to stay in NOLA, the key to enjoying life there is to not think of New Orleans as a poorly run American city.. you have to think of New Orleans as a really, really well-run 3rd world, Caribbean city… then the whole place makes a lot more sense .

Living here will make a retirement to Costa Rica or Honduras a real upgrade.

Question for you guys over 40 who grew up in the city..... Back in the early 90's when Nola was setting murder records and it seemed like almost every neighborhood was going to crap except for Lakeview/Lakefront area, was the mood this bad about the future?
Of course there was no social media or droppings back then, but what were the discussions like with friends/family?

Looking through your post history, you probably should have left long ago. Some people aren’t meant to live in New Orleans. Good luck wherever you end up.

We had 2x the population and a lot more companies based here. Crime was bad but it was confined to the bad areas and cops were allowed to maintain control. I don’t see a positive future for the city right now. Maybe in 20-25 years it will turn the corner into a small boutique city.
