Yea pretty bad situation and scum media is going to make people dislike him by describing what he does incorrectly
It’s crazy. I was in his room when the first local news channel interviewed him, so I heard every question and answer. It’s amazing how many details they got wrong even trying to tell the story properly.
Daily Mail then did a hit piece type of story just by grabbing some “facts” from that story and instagram posts, without even interviewing him. Last night CNN interviewed him while I was there, and their reporter, surprisingly, did an amazing job of thorough and detailed questioning. Haven’t seen their article yet though.

David responded nonchalantly because he didn’t want to freak out the couple that he had brought along for their first nature excursion. Because that’s the kind of guy he is - he always puts others before himself

Holy shite you're an idiot

Just got off the phone with the guy, apparently the snake was a relatively small one. He said they actually gave him 55 vials of anti-venom and docs were worried he wouldn't make it. Apparently his blood paletelet levels were extremely low so I'm guessing it was a hemotoxic snake but he didn't know for sure. He said when it struck the first time he didn't think it got him but the second time it bit into his hand and wouldn't let go and he had to pull it off. Damn. Hoping to not have to undergo skin grafts but it's wait-and-see.
Just to put the severity of David’s bite into perspective and the need for so much antivenin:
CK (creatine kinase) levels in the bloodstream are an indication of muscle damage. Normal is around 55-170 U/L. David’s CK levels were over 10,000.

You’re talking about a delay of 30 seconds to put the others in the group at ease - the ones you’re depending on to safely drive you to the nearest help. The ability to act calmly in this situation as opposed to freaking out and then having everyone else freaking out is a gift that you would not understand.

does he ever wear the snake leg guards ?

He certainly will now.

It’s the only thing I can fault him for here. As uncomfortable as they are, I wear 17” boots everywhere when I’m catching snakes. Almost stepped on a big Western diamondback on my September trip to West Texas, so that reinforced it for me (caught 84 rattlesnakes that week). He’ll be a boot wearer from here on out.

Isn't anti-venom like $5k-$10k per vial?
My wife is a hospital pharmacist. She said it’s about $30-35,000 for 10 vials.

That’s gonna be a hell of a hospital bill
That antivenom ain’t cheap

Eastern diamondback rattlesnake: the most venomous viper in America. What's he doing acting silly and taking photos and not calling 911-- it's a miracle he didn't die during the filming of this
There are things I was told to do when I was a kid if you bitten by a venomous snake. Standing round joking about it while filming isn’t one of them.

But necrosis in his leg is worsening according to the last CT scan so he’s not out of the woods yet.
Prolly because he gave it an extra fifteen minutes to set in while telling the snake good game so he could gets laughs on the internet.

Yeah if UHC sees those videos..they will denial on 1st pass 86% of the time and that's on non high $$$ spend. At least that was before the shooting.
Not sure now but Venom is super expensive and ICU is on the cheap end $7-10K a day depending on meds, treatments/procesures

So that’s the guy. And he was just peeling bark. That’s a fun thing to do.

Fun/Safe fact, you DO NOT need to bring the snake with you as most venmous snakes in the US are of the Crotalidae (pit viper) group (family?) and have similar enough venom that the same anti-venon is used thorughout the US for bites.
Its always good if you can describe it and/or take a picture but usually its not necessary. So don't waste time/risk further bites trying to capture it - just get to the hospital asap and with a little physical activity on your part as possible (the more physical exertion the more the venom is pumped throughout the body)
The most common exception to this family of snakes in the US is the CORAL Snake. If this bites you, be sure to not keep it a secret when you go into the hospital. They are in the Elapidae family and their venom is different - its a neurotoxin (as opposed to Pit Vipers which are a combination Hemotoxin)

This may be true but as someone who doesn't know him personally, just listening to his post-bite commentary screams annoying shitstain youtuber.
"gg, bro. gg"

This story does make me re-think going for hikes in tennis shoes in my local national forest. I know that timber rattlers can pretty much disappear in the woodland floor and sometimes I have to leave the beaten path of the trail. Though I am told by snake people that defense bites are usually dry bites but obviously not in this case.

If it was an Eastern Diamond — then I can believe it. THE MOST venomous snake in North America. Releases the most venom

Sad. I follow this dude on IG and he's a really good kid. Doesn't do it for shock value, is extremely informative.
Hope he has a full recovery.

I figured that hospitalization would not pay.
Personal bankruptcy is the order of the day.
The hospitals probably settle usually.
