I know a guy who graduated from Tulane law school 2 years ago with tons of student loans and he was worried about getting a job, period. Seems Louisiana is saturated with attorneys already. He did get a job but I don’t think he is making that much.

Hanging your own shingle straight out of law school? 30k if you are lucky.
BigLaw depends on location but my lowly small firm/solo self understands it be a lot more.

I think a new attorney in a small firm in BR would make about $60K. The big firms pay much more.

If they work 80 hours per week.

Depends how smart you are.
To a degree. Your upbringing, family social status, family name, and proper schooling all play a part in how much “rain” you can bring to the firm in a few years...and ultimately, that rain is what keeps the firm up and running.

I wasn't involved in hiring this year so there may have been a bump. We hire mainly from Emory, Duke, UNC and UVA and our 1 assses last year got $96k plus a $15k bonus for moot court. There is also a bonus for our Atlanta office but I don't remember how much that is since I never hired GA attorneys.
