i have never seen this odd behavior. i would ask the restaurant if they support this. if they said yes then i would respect it. if they said no then i sit in whatever seat i damn well please.
i dont see this being a huge problem as long as i have seating with everyone in my party. if it did become a problem, id inform the restaurant i wouldn't dine there anymore and this was the reason to get them to stop it.

Who is doing the tipping? Is it staff or guests? I worked in that industry long enough to know that if you don’t control your door, you’re inviting chaos and unnecessary drama.

Based on the pictures and what has been posted, you will get your seat, but your group will be scattered all over the restaurant.
A compromise might be that the restaurant only allow a person who comes early to only save chairs at the table they are sitting down at. And even that needs to be limited.

Go really early one time and tip all the chairs. Then when there is an issue because there is no where for people to sit then the restaurant may get the hint.

Solution:
If you and your group are able to sit together in non tipped seats, proceed in doing so.
If your group is unable to sit together because of tipped seats, proceed to sitting in tipped seats that people have not sat down in. They are not entitled to a seat they have not shown up for.

Don’t know if this has already been answered but dont they have a host that seats people?
How do you just go in and grab a seat or reserve your seat?
I don’t eat out a lot at all so maybe I’m behind in how this works.
I don’t think tipping a chair reserves anything in my mind.
