First world problem of the day-After hours business text messaging

Who the hell thinks it is acceptable to send random business related texts at all hours of the day? I'm talking things like, "we are still meeting tomorrow" at 9:15pm? or "Can you call me when you get to the office?" at 6:30am.
Send freaking emails if its outside of 8 to 6pm and not an emergency. Emergencies are not a small change order I need approved, Emergencies are big deals falling through or someone dying. The worst part about texts, is it forces immediate action. Because if you don't do something about it, you'll likely forget about it.
FWIW I own my own business.
Also, don't talk to me in text if you wouldn't say it in person. "?????" is not an appropriate response to a supervisor or vendor. Pisses me off when people send "?????" because you didn't respond to their text on Saturday morning because you are fishing or something.
ETA: Its not employees that's easy to handle at first mishap. Its contractors, vendors, etc.

Doubtful because if you did you would understand that as a small business owner there aren't really things as normal business hours for small business owners. I have been self employed for going on 20 years now and have never complained about work outside of "normal business hours" because I know it comes with the territory.

I'm doubting it is very successful.

Turn your notification sounds off if thats what bothers you. I shoot texts at times so the person can read it, know its not an emergency, and respond when they have time.

Have you tried having adult, professional conversations with your employees concerning these issues, or did you move straight to passive aggressive ranting on an anonymous message board?

No you don't or you would not be crying about this.

If something is going to take more than a simple response, I prefer a phone call. I’m not going to text someone a conversation or send 20 texts back and forth when a simple 10 second convo will suffice. If it’s after hours, then call me. This is a rule in my department. People are less likely to call if it’s something non urgent and millineals won’t call at all because they’re scared to talk to people. Prob solved.

Can’t speak for the rest of my generation, but I prefer text because I have a written record of what was said and I consider it less invasive of someone’s time. Boomers complaining about texting are covering for their frustration punching out a text with their index finger. I can type about 65wpm on my phone, so it never occurs to me that a phone call might be quicker.

At first I was about to post a snide you're a whiner comment, but, on second thought, you are right 100%.
If you are the man, it's 24/7/365 of concern, and it is hard as balls to get a minute of relaxation.
IMO, you need to have a come to Jesus meeting with your vendors and employees.
"?????" from an employee is a two-check offence.

Subtle brag about having texting and email on their phone.

If you’re going to forget about it that easily, you’re not handling your business. Hire a competent manager and go fishing if that’s your biggest priority.
Also, the “business hours” thing is BS if you’re actually trying to succeed. Maybe take your personal cell phone number off of your business card or stop giving it out if you can’t deal with this.

I get it. Many here can't. And you're right on the first world problem. It's all good.

I was director of sales globally for a chemical company dealing in deepwater Oil & Gas. We were acquired and were one of a dozen divisions in a publicly traded corporation with over $1 billion in annual sales. Corporation earnings were about $1.27 per share. Our small division had about $45 million in annual sales but accounted for 22% of $1.27 earnings per share. We were literally printing money.
I cannot begin to tell you how many asinine emails and texts I would receive at night from corporate in Denver wanting something revised, a new projection, etc... all of it meaningless and always needed the next day. If you had plans they wanted you to cancel and get on the request.
In 2007 I had enough and quit. Sat out a 1 year non-compete and then cranked up directly competing with them.

I now own 2 businesses in oil & gas and have never looked back. You don't have to put up with this shite. It's a quality of life issue for me. Put a policy in place or give people more freedom to do things without your involvement. If you are micro managing them then that could be why they text you every time they fart.
A little introspection into how you are handling employees and if that is not a problem then lay down a policy that is more geared to family and having a life outside of work. Some employees feel like the more they text you after hours the more you think they are working and committed to the company.
Not saying this is your fault but step back and really try to determine what is driving this text bullshite.

Good for you, I'm in my 30s and ran a business for 7 years. I'm well aware.
That doesn't mean my custodial vendor or a carpet cleaner needs to text me at 9PM for a job in two days.
I certainly discuss this with employees. Vendors are a different story, I ask them nicely to send me emails if its after hours.
As a business owner of 20 years it seems like you have poor time management if you think non essential phone calls and messaging after hours is acceptable.
