Never went with my parents, only ever got one of their vehicles or purchased a used from my previous employer. Decided to check out a few Hondas we were interested in to upgrade my wife's (no pics) car. No intention of buying.

Immediately pulling in, dude already outside waving us down to park. Guy comes up and is super chatty, we shake hands, never even get his name. We met his boss and two other people. Ended up looking into a mid-level version of the two vehicles we were interested in. Anytime my wife pointed out a feature the guy would be jazzed up just hearing about it.

Only made it a 30 minute trip because we had plans but the guy was desperate to let us borrow the car for the afternoon and to have us come back immediately to buy a vehicle even though I pointed out we weren't going to buy that day. Dude must be running on Five Hour and crack because I've never had so many unnecessary handshakes and bullshite talk in my life. Wanted us to come back that night to find more options. We never even got the appraisal on the trade in vehicle because he wouldn't shut up about the cars he had to sell.

I think even all is said and done I'll just buy from the manufacturer. I'll pay the extra just to never have to talk to a salesman.

I think that’s a great idea.
Let us know how that works out

I'd rather not try to talk to a human who is trying to waste my time selling me a bunch of shite I don't need.

Buying a car is one of the things I dread in life. The “supplier” price is about as low as they will go, unless you spend days at the dealership…and then you can only get very little lower. I would find what the supplier price is on the car and be fully prepared to walk away, if they don’t take it.

Another thing I may try is the car buying service at your local Sam’s club.

The invoice that they will show you is complete bullshite….regardless of what they tell you, they are not going to sell the car at a loss.

I've yet to talk to anyone buying below sticker or even AT sticker price. I'm just venting some frustration because I know the market is getting more consumer friendly.

And of course, never trust the price they give you. I've considered looking into the costco programs.

I’m not reading all of that as it’s clear you’re an idiot.

I’ll second the Sam’s/Costco route. My only gripe is that some brands didn’t have local dealers that participated.

Is this your first time interacting with a salesman of any kind?

Good grief.

It took you longer to write that than it takes me to buy a car.

We bought a new Honda for my wife 1k below sticker and 3.9% financing fairly recently. Nothing crazy but we needed another vehicle.

This board makes such a big deal about cars. I realize that the dealership and salesman have to make a profit/living. If I don’t like the price I just leave. It is what it is.

I feel like people online feel the need to brag about getting a good deal.

people here really like mention that they drive a cheap/shitty vehicle while also subtly bragging about or hinting at making a lot of money
