This board makes such a big deal about cars. I realize that the dealership and salesman have to make a profit/living. If I don’t like the price I just leave. It is what it is.

I feel like people online feel the need to brag about getting a good deal

This is true. I push back on the bs and try to get the best deal, I also acknowledge they are a business and will make money on the deal. It's how the world works.

I went to two dealerships this week. They were trying hard but we were just there to test drive. Ain't no way we're buying before March.

Even when we were getting 10k off trucks pre Covid they were making money. I think they should make a profit too, although I disagree with not being able to buy directly from the manufacturer if you want.

I’ll never understand why so many people stress out about the car buying process. The money, sure. But the sale process? You’re the customer. You control what happens. Find a car you like, a price you can accept, and buy it. It’s really that simple. The dealership is going to make a profit off you so don’t worry about all the bullshite expectations of “getting a great deal” as if the dealership is ever gonna lose money on the sale.

This is exactly it. Bullshitters online trying to prop up their egos by pretending to be macho tough master negotiators.

Just find a car you like at a price you can live with and don’t worry about what your friends will think of the deal.

Great example of the loser mindset and why we can't have nice things.

We don't actually "need" a dealer to be the middleman but you just accept that it's required by law. I should be able to pick out what I want and order it from the factory if I wanted.

The amount of lying that happens at car dealerships is beyond absurd.

Dealers in Germany are owned by the manufacturers and there's not a lot of bullshite involved with getting a new car. Somehow they are able to get by.

Dude "I think even all is said and done I'll just buy from the manufacturer." You think Chevy Manufacturer Salesman are gonna waist their time selling 1 automobile when they're focused on selling 100 or 1,000+ to parts of the US? I've never heard of someone in my life buy straight from manufacturer. You can only get from dealer or private person.

You're thinking from your side, but the manufacturer has no desire to deal with small profits of selling to 1 person by 1 person when they sell 1,000+ cars to different regions/sites at a time where they make actual sizeable profits. They leave the minimum 1 car at a time profits for the dealer to have.

You went to a car dealership and are upset that they tried to sell you a car?

Went to Carmax with a price on my trade in and the vehicle I was buying already finalized online. Paid that price to the penny. Only somewhat sales thing I got was the care plan and I humored him and when he looked up and saw there was only one shop on the plan in my area, he even gave up on that. Highly recommend it. Of course they only have used though.

The best car buying advice I can give you is this:

Don't be afraid to say,"No." Say it over and over again. No, no, no.

Anything they try to sell you on is a waste of money. They'll try to make it sound like you need it. You don't need it. Whatever it is, you don't need it. Agree to purchase a specific vehicle with a specific set of features you want and nothing more.

Yes. Leave me the frick alone. I’ve already seen the car online and I just want to put my eyes on it. When I’m ready, send me to the “manager.”
