Oiless Turkey Fryer

Go get one of these. Its not 100% fried turkey(obviously), but way less oil/grease and crap.

And you can cook other things in it.

I'm on call for work, so I have to stay near the house. My dad went to my sister's in Mississippi. I think I'm just going to stay at the house and clean, watch football, drink some bourbon and maybe cook a steak instead. Low key day. Maybe even go golf.

same here. My parents both died during the pandemic and, my MIL died a few months ago. Rest of family traveled to see other relatives. This is our first holiday where we are both parentless. It's a little sad but, looking forward to a quiet holiday. I have cooked a turkey before, it's really easy.

Be sure to check the neck cavity as well as the "stuffing" cavity for neck and giblets before you cook it. You can use that stuff for making the gravy.

My mother passed away in February of this year and the last of the in laws passed in 2021. Fortunately my wife perfected some of mom's signature dishes (mirliton casserole, jambalaya, and gumbo) and her parents (brussel sprouts and beef stroganoff) well before their passing.

While not physically present, they are with you. Happy Thanksgiving

After a couple of years of health problems, I've decided to do my very best to measure my ingredients and write a decent recipe for my oyster cornbread dressing this year, just in case. I'd hate for it to go extinct when I die.

I'm cooking mine on the rotisserie. It's brining right now and should be a homerun.

I’ve never not spent Thanksgiving at either mine or my wife’s parents. Neither of us has ever cooked a Turkey or dressing. Always brought a side dish and desert. How did I get to be 50 and never cooked a fricking Turkey? This should be fun.

Think of it this way, you and your wife are starting a new tradition. It may not be the way you wanted this new tradition to start, but you're going to make the best of it --- and you're spending time with the woman by your side.

There's always something to be positive and grateful for.

Happy Thanksgiving!

I have a handful of screen shots of Mom’s recipes. And some she taught me over the years. I know she has a ton written down but since she has passed my Dad won’t let anyone have any access to anything of my Mom’s.

I can’t begin to describe how heartbreaking that is right now.

I’m super thankful. I have two wonderful sons (both grown more or less) and a couple of friends who don’t have anywhere else to go Eating with me and my wife. It’s a little hectic, but we’ll eat well and I’ve got a little bottle of bourbon someone gave me for my birthday to pass around. (I don’t drink much it’s called Elijah Craig and could be nasty as far as I know).

Debone and separate your dark and white meat. Dark meat takes longer to cook and that is why everyone has dry arse white meat

We're doing a shrimp boil. MIL cant eat shrimp so also doing a spiral ham and chicken and dressing. Going Turkey free tomorrow. My mom loves boiled shrimp. Dad passed in 2015. Miss him dearly.

My dad foresaw this issue and encouraged my mom to learn to do his mother’s dressing about 25 years ago. My husband has done the same. I have watched her from start to finish twice and taken notes. It still wont be the same so I enjoy it while she is here to do it right.

This is our first Thanksgiving without Dad, so it will be tough. But thanks to him the dressing will be good.

We’ve always had a tradition of whoever hosts does the Turkey so I’ve made a few. Not my favorite but we’ve mainly smoked them.

I’d just assume do a brisket, ribs, whatever l, but I at least learned how to do it.

Still fortunate enough to have both sets of parents around but my parents don’t cook. They just reheat.
