At least the roof lines, any way. I choose B.
Got my MLIS in 1999, started in 1995 and commuted around birth of son and other stuff. Middleton was a pit of despair even then.

Walking in front of Middleton on the way to Tiger Stadium on game days in the Fall…pounding on the glass windows to the dismay of the foreign students who were studying….magical!

What was wrong with LSU’s old library?

I graduated in 2007 and it was a total shithole then. Of all the things we throw unnecessary money at, this isn't one of them

Most people prefer to read and study without raw sewage or rain water leaking down on them.

I’ll take either, as long as they keep the private study (frick) booths they had when I was there.

I'm trying to get my bearings here. Where is the new library proposed location? The old Middleton footprint?

Negative. It's sandwiched between S.Stadium, S.Campus, and Field House Drive. It looks to me like they would demolish the current Electrical Engineering Building

.. they will then convert the present library back to green space like it was before they put Middleton.. look at it from above and you can see the original quad..
This is the most important thing.

The "quad" was more or less in the shape of a cross. All of the surrounding buildings in the Italian Renaissance style looked out on it.

Then somebody decided to plop a Brady Bunch looking building right in the middle of everything cutting off the four arms of the cross from each other.

What was wrong with LSU’s old library? As long as it did its job, which is to store books and give students a place to study, why was a new one needed?

The library was a dump when I went to school there almost thirty years ago. It was a bigger dump the last time I visited the campus three years ago.

Needs to be named after Troy Middleton, though. To hell with any other name.

Not a big fan of either. A doesn't fit in with the rest of the buildings in the area.

That's a really big building to store coloring books and scratch and sniffs.

It’s going to be huge - a good thing considering how many more students are there now.

They clearly do not want to build upward beyond 4-5 floors. IMO the right move is to go with what will blend in the most, which is B.

Troy H Middleton, the man who said in a letter to the UT President if Black LSU students try to go to the same swimming pool as white students we'll just close the pool for everybody. Nothing at LSU should be named after him. A parking lot would be better than the current library.

Removing the Middleton and restoring the green space will look much better! Sometimes less is more.

Troy H Middleton, the man who helped integrate black police officers into the Louisiana State Police, and led a biracial commission to help quell race issues in Louisiana.

A man who served his country, was a key figure in the Battle of the Bulge, and quite literally helped end fascism in Europe.

He oversaw the largest student body increase in LSU's history, which included an increase in degrees offered, and faciliies.

Naming the library after him is the least they should do.
