Student who was shot five times and survived planning to sue Broward County

I'm surprised the Sheriff's office wasn't listed as a defendant in the lawsuit.

These kinds of people are part of the problem. These lawsuits need to be thrown out. They are the reason school districts are scared shitless to do anything

As sad as this situation is, I don’t support this.

Shouldn't the school district be responsible for his medical since he was on school property and participating in school activities?

But they are probably trying for that f you money.

So gross negligence on part of the school district and Sheriff's office is suddenly the victim's fault?

Btw, according to the article, this kid's medical bills are going to top $1MIL.

I'm generally against being sue happy after a tragedy but I'll allow this one. Had the school, sheriff's department, FBI, etc. done their jobs this shooting could have been prevented. Somebody deserves to pay

I am typically against suit but I support it in this case if directed to the right people: the FBI and sheriffs department. They had a multitude of tips and acted negligently without follow up. The sheriffs department either failed to train or failed to act appropriately on the day of as well.

It’s $1 million in medical bills. That’s a lot of money due to their negligence

While generally I might agree with you, there appears to be some significant neglignce on the part of the school system and sheriff's dept (who needs to be named). The shooter was a ticking time bomb and EVERYONE both knew it and notified the authorities about him numerous times. Yet, the authorities did virtually nothing to attempt to prevent this from happening.

If I'm a parent and my child is dead (or just a student who was injured) I absolutely want to know why more wasn't done to try to prevent this event that everyone apparently saw coming from a mile away.

A school principal, someone who has dedicated their life to the betterment of kids, is being sued because of the actions of some deranged psychopath.

That school principal is likely as saddened by this tragedy as anyone who didn’t lose a child.

And now the tax payers are going to line the pockets of some slimy fricking lawyer.

Yes- it was a very shitty thing that happened. That doesn't mean they are entitled to a huge pay day. The legal system has set a precedence where anything bad that happens to someone, they now get money. This money comes at the expense of the school district and will push them even further into the mindset of always walking on eggshells, not making any kind of changes for fear of the negative consequences- not matter how many great things can come of change.

Lulz if you think the insurance company wouldn't go after the county/sheriff's department themselves.

Have you been reading up on how the County handled the shooting?

They didn't do anything when it was happening either. A man who's job it was to stop things like this locked up. He should of never been in that position if he couldn't respond.

Again, why? How are they responsible for a nutjob deciding to shoot up the school?
