A federal appellate court has thrown out a legal challenge calling for a new environmental and public review for what would be the nation's first offshore LNG export terminal, to be located off southwest Louisiana.
The ruling from the three-judge panel came about a month after the backers of the Delfin LNG terminal announced they were proceeding with an initial $5 billion investment to build the first anchorage and floating LNG processing vessel, with plans to begin export by 2030.
The U.S. 5th Circuit Court of Appeals didn't deal with the meat of the challenge, however, instead finding that the three plaintiffs lacked the standing to bring the petition to court.

The court found none of the plaintiff environmental groups — the Center of Biological Diversity, the Sierra Club and the Habitat Recovery Project — showed they had members with a concrete injury from the proposed terminal 40 miles off the coast of Cameron Parish.

Why would you build a terminal 40 miles out?
