The Chandeleur Islands look rather healthy in that photograph, which is gratifying to see.

I was talking specifically about the large one in Santa Rosa County. There is also another one of about 75 acres in another part of Santa Rosa County. Additionally there is about 100 acres in West Pensacola, a good sized one in South Walton near Santa Rosa Beach, and apparently one in Gulfport.

The permitted burn was actually Monday when the conditions were better than they were today, unfortunately it got away from the burner and they were unable to control it before the fire weather got to whatnot was today.

Looks like the South Walton fire is north of 98 (or was, hopefully still is), essentially started between Stinky's and the Bay.

It is very bad. Crossed 98 and a lot of south Walton west of 393 is evacuated.

I saw another one just east of the LA/MS line on I-10 around 5:15.

Must not have been that big.

The one here is big and hitting a very populated area. The pictures are horrific:(

I don't know if someone is setting them. We have had beautiful weather this spring and little rain. We have had a red flag warning today.

It looks to be west of the Golf Club. It’s really not that populated until you get closer to 30A. We left our house in Miramar this afternoon to head back to LA and you could see the flames from both the Pensacola area and Santa Rosa Beach. Once we found out I-10 was shut down we turned around and went back to the house.

Decent wind coming out of the north but you can still smell the smoke over here.

This is why we need to get this corona stuff under control by Hurricane Season. Can you imagine packing people into shelters?

Under control how? It’s not going away. You can’t round it up and put it in a closet. So what exactly do you want to do?

I live in Destin but have several friends that are sitting in a beach access parking lot watching and hoping their homes aren't burning. It is populated to us. My husband just said the Santa Rosa Beach Club golf course has damage. Obviously, it is all happening and we pray it is not as bad as it looks. Praying for everyone in South Walton.

Started with someone burning leaves apparently. My friend finished a golf game at 4:30 and the course started burning around 5:00. Hope they can put it out soon but some houses have burnt down.

Friend,

Looking at the almanac, it appears as though that area has not had any rain since April 23, fourteen days ago. Since that time, I assume their weather is similar to ours, which has been unseasonably arid with really low humidity.

Yours,
TulaneLSU

Friend,

Some baw happened upon a Murder Hornet nest and since he was stung by a really large hornet in January, he thought he was immune to the sting.

As he was preparing the moltov cocktail to ignite the nest, he was stung by a particularly aggressive Murder Hornet causing him to drop his ordinance and starting the unfortunate blaze.

So much for heroes and the hero worship that motivated his sortie into the Murder Hornet nest and subsequent fire.

Disrespectfully yours,

Ruzil

I did hear on WLOX that the fire last wk near Long Beach/Gulfport was being investigated as arson. This one could be related but it’s awfully dry so something as little as a cigarette butt out the car window can start one around here.
