Dude our major east/west interstates don’t even have 6 lanes in our most populous cities.
IMO, I-10 needs to be 6 lanes the entire way through Louisiana. 8+ lanes through Baton Rouge and New Orleans.
I also think US 190 needs a major upgrade as an alternative route to I-10.

I have no clue how they will do that with all those homes and businesses literally right off the HWY starting in the aforementioned Raceland.
It really doesn’t become a problem until you get to Des Allemand’s and Paradis. I have no clue how they will build that to interstate standards.

Ok, but I don't see where you specified which ones you are talking about

And since you're trying to be a smartass, I'll also point out that this statement isn't accurate

You could call the J-Turn project a temporary fix, but it could be a while until there's a permanent one. This section of Highway 90 is part of the future I-49 South corridor. Once the road opens as an interstate, the J-Turns will be gone. "We'll remove all those J-Turns because we'll have a fully controlled access highway with interchanges and ramps," said Oliver.

I just want 49 to go from I-220 all the way through downtown Shreveport.
I'll be able to get to my favorite dining spots 10 minutes faster each way. It'll also alleviate fighting I-20 5 oclock traffic.
This is the kinda shitshow South Louisiana has yet to reach.
The neighborhood has been under study after study and the buyout of the residences has been underway for at least a decade.
A couple months ago though when I came back in the area to tend to some business, I kid you not, some fat ugly 30-ish "native resident" claimed on local news, "I ain't never heard of no plan and ain't never heard of no buyout offer". The fat pig has to have spent her lifetime with her ears plugged and eyes covered intentionally for that to be true. As bold faced a lie as I have ever seen in 50+ year lifetime. The camera even panned backwards to show both her neighbors had signs and stickers notifying residents in letters large enough to read while driving down the street.
But nope, none of those residents in the neighborhood know a thing about it. It's gonna end up with police forcibly evicting the neighborhood and physically transporting the residents to another home.

I am assuming it would be an elevated expressway for two reasons:
1) Much easier to justify given flooding.
2) The access roads would help alleviate local traffic and not have a US highway go down to 45-40 mph.
3) The Westbank Expressway is elevated as well as the rebuilt Huey P. And Westwego has the neutral ground empty to get it done.
The biggest problem is:
MONEY. La doesn't spend it where it's supposed to go and this would be a project darn near equivalent to Boston's Big Dig.

Are cane tractors Interstate legal? Broussard to Franklin during cane season Hwy 90 is their route.

Too much traffic on 49 already. Do not want.

How is a j turn complying with interstate standards exactly? Last I checked you can’t cross a lane of traffic on an interstate
LINK
So they’re putting them in for interstate standards but plan on taking them out once the interstate is in place?

I’m pleasantly surprised that connecting 49 North to 220 Loop North Shreveport actually got funded first and is almost complete. Now, The inner city connector portion SHOULD be the easiest to build since the Route is about 3.5 miles long & goes through complete ghetto but of course it won’t be easy...they’re already saying “can’t break up the beautiful Allendale Qborough hoods for a nice new interstate”! Lol!

Shreveport, Lake Charles and even Alexandria have bypasses but Lafayette and Baton Rouge do not?
Good question..SHV has had the 3132/220 Loop for decades plus great parkways on either side of Red River to relieve traffic flow on major arteries.

would even nicer if they would make the dump and trash trucks take river road to the landfills instead of 310 and 90.
As someone who lives off of River Road, no fricking way. That will never happen or be allowed.

That’s the whole point of the J turns. The J turns take away the ability to cross the lanes.

Apparently so, that’s why I said they’re fricking dumb

Takes longer to drive this at 7am than to drive i-10 from 610 to 610 in Houston. It's ridiculous.

Bruh you literally have to drive across the opposite lane when you make a left turn. That shite isn’t legal on an interstate. How is this complying with interstate standards?
Jesus.
The whole reason was to cut down on accidents which they’ve been proven to do.

The need is not there compared to a need for a loop around the capital area.
I agree that the capital area need is greater. Once you get outside of Gonzales traffic dries up to a large extent. Continuing 49 could definitely pull a bit of the New Orleans bound traffic out of Baton Rouge but I don't think it's enough to make a noticeable difference. The more busy route seems to be 12 (I run into far more stop-n-go traffic on 12 than I do on 10, the only busier interstate section is the 110-12 corridor) and for that you really do need a southern loop.
Still, it won't hurt my feelings if they work on 49 as well since that's an easier project to finish.
