All the new overpasses and J Turns from Broussard to Berwick are part of the I-49 plan.
While those J turns improve safety it seems as though that money could have been spent on service roads and limiting access to bring the road to interstate standards

Those J turns are fricking dumb

I mean as someone who’s had a few hs classmates killed on that road it’s greatly reduced the number of accidents so I’m okay with it. A slight inconvenience is worth a human life.

Sorry for your loss but how many of those accidents were drinking and driving related and how many would have been prevented if the J Turns were there?

That "future corridor of I-49" sign has been up since I am a kid. I expect them to maybe start in 20 years from now and may end up seeing it done in my lifetime.

I don’t think most of the traffic issues in BR are due to people going to NO. 18 wheeler traffic on I-12 and the bottleneck that is the new bridge is the problem. People going to NO from Lafayette can take 90 now which avoids the intersection between 10-12/10-110.

It’s a harrowing conundrum to say the least.

S, speaking of harrowing, I have yet to replace the sheetrock from the fox in my lake home incident. I need to take care of that ASAP once I get back from St. Bart’s.

Absolutely, Paul. Please enjoy yourself and forget about that unfortunate circumstance. Tell Mrs. Allen hello and that I can’t wait for that Labor Day Montauk barbecue!

Note, the part of laffy along the thruway looks like a little slice of the gaza strip in the otherwise honkey/baw paradise of lafayette.
Yep. Everything along Hwy 90 and I-10 in Lafayette and every exit into Lafayette is in shitty areas of town. Doesn't make a good first impression for visitors to the city or people passing through on I-10
A loop or bypass from 1-10 around the South side of town is needed, but it's not happening anytime soon
Serious question- why do Shreveport, Lake Charles and even Alexandria have bypasses but Lafayette and Baton Rouge do not?

I suspect the Franklin overpass that was just built is because of the I-49 plan?
Yep as well as the big project at Albertsons Parkway in Broussard that has been going on for 3-4 years now . They have been getting knocked out 1 by 1 but at a slow pace.
As you get between that area and I-10, the overpasses become more involved and much more expensive. As others have mentioned the residents along the shitty Throughway area are objecting to everything

Still doing studies in Laffy because building it would destroy the vibrant neighborhood and culture along the Thruway.
When you list the pros and cons of building it, this is in the "pro" column, right?

None of them were and probably a good bit considering they were all trying to out gun traffic or got caught by someone trying to outgun traffic,
How many accident have there been since the j turns? You can’t tell me it hasn’t helped.

Like I said sorry for your loss. I’ve known people from that tri City area for over 40 years, but don’t know anyone that was killed on that stretch trying to outrun traffic.

they’ve only been there not even a year
In Broussard, the J turns were put in 4-5 years ago

I’ve been in Wichita over a year and they were done putting them in before I left louisiana.
And count yourself blessed then

The fact we can't complete I-49 from NO to KC is the single greatest symbol of the late boomer age American decline.

That’s not the ones I’m talking about. Keep up.
And they weren’t put in for safety or because people were getting killed, they were put in in order to comply with interstate standards.
Posted on 8/5/18 at 1:26 pm to lgtiger
Are they still trying to use US-90 to build up to Interstate standard?
I have no clue how they will do that with all those homes and businesses literally right off the HWY starting in the aforementioned Raceland.
