I'm an engineer and wish I had done accounting/finance
But no one will ever replace any of those with a machine. It's all judgement all day

My accounting degree brought me into the IT audit industry, which is booming and only going to get bigger. I would suggest this path to anyone.

Why's that?

Because our society currently rewards finance people way more than engineers and its fricked up.

Which group of finance people are you referring to?

Not sure what industry you are working in but in mine engineers get paid 25-50% more than me and I'm in finance. I work in the oilfield industry.

Obviously your company isn't indicative of all companies, but wall street is probably the prime example of money handling folks getting big checks yet not providing any tangible goods for people. Supposedly there's an inverse relationship between the size of the financial sector and the health of the economy.
I've certainly just read a bit here or there, but just what I've seen written in various studies/articles.

its shocking what I find out on a daily basis what engineers are ignorant of, I think it's turned into a weed out degree to see who can handle projects etc.
Funny. My dad is an Engineer, and he bitches all the time about the young engineers coming in these days that suck.

The funny part about that is it's his fault, kinda. In both engineering and architecture the idea of apprenticeship disappeared a few decades ago. Older guys bitch about the young ones but they don't give them the guidance they got when they started.
Generally the only recent grads that know what they're doing right away have already worked in the field for several years. Luckily for me, I started out in my grandfather's practice when I was still in highschool.

All the US companies are doing their best to outsource the engineering jobs. Technical design/drafting is well on its way already.

More and more engineering is being outsourced to China and India.
I'm more worried about that trend than any "machines"

I haven't been in the industrial side for almost 8 years but every time this was tried at a company I worked for it was a money losing venture. It's great that you get a CAD monkey for half the hourly cost but when you have to send it back 3 times for them to make corrections and you're missing deadlines clients will tell you to get fricked.

I'm in accounting as well and it seems like firms are hiring more than ever
I have Finance and ISDS(Computers and shite) degrees..
Them accountants ain't going anywhere in my industry. We rely on them big time for reconciliations between systems, taxes, and for financial statements for SEC, investors, etc.
Keep on crunching them numbers you nerdier than computer guys nerds.
