I don't think you realize how it works. You will never recover a loss in your 401k. The money has disappeared.
Now, you can return a higher percentage and make up the ground, but the loss still happened.
I am not saying that an investment is not without risk, I am simply stating that you are ok with losing on your 401k while bragging about saving $20 is comical.
Also, examine your options instead of a 401k. I didn't realize how much I was costing myself year over year.
Please tell me you don't handle anyone's finances

Can I pick it up in person? It won't cost me much to drive there.

125 bucks a month shouldn't make or break your life

So you are of the opinion that losing in your 401k is good?

Think you kind of missed the point. You definitely aren't wrong, but someone in their 20s and even early 30s is much better suited to handle a loss than someone near retirement.
Obviously there are better options, but we can save that for the money board.

Dry or wet? You can save money by going with kibble FYI

Depending where you are in life, it can be a positive
I don't care what mine shows, as long as the shares are there and growing

I got his point completely.
He was brushing aside losing money in his 401k in exchange for $20 in his pocket.

When did anyone ever say it would? I simply said saving that money with zero effort would be a welcome thing for a large majority of people. Sorry that it doesn't benefit the oil baws that were raking in record profits at the expense of everyone else.

This is actually false. While I appreciate the extra $20; I also appreciate being able to buy the market at a discount and accumulate more shares at a cheaper price. Win win for me.

Gasoline is a commodity people largely rely on and it is a staple in most families' budgets. So, if you can stop dedicating $125 on gas, you can rededicate to credit card debt. Or groceries. Or a savings account.

I'm enjoying cheap gas and I'm still employed in the oil patch so everybody in this thread gets a high five
Posted on 2/11/16 at 1:00 pm to Clint Torres
I do like that gas is now cheaper than when I got out of high school in 2003. I indirectly work in the industry (more chemical than drilling / production however) supplying equipment and we have had layoffs (my department now 50% staffed vs a year ago), but you are right, it feels good to fill up once a week for so much cheaper. Contributions to the college / rainy day funds for the kids are much easier.

same here. Lower prices at the pump are about the only positive in this gloomy industry nowadays.
Posted on 2/11/16 at 1:03 pm to Clint Torres
I have lost more than in my investments and property values than I have saved at the pump. Also, looks like my taxes will go up because the State of LA is hurting so bad due to me saving at the pump.
