401(k) is down 12% for the year. what a shitty feeling.
I don't recall my 401k soaring when gas was $4/gallon.
Economists over simplify the reason the Dow goes up or down.
I'll take low gas prices any day of the week.

I do get the effect it has on the Louisiana economy, but the shaming of people who are somewhat happy about the prices is absurd. "Well I hope you're enjoying that little bit of extra money because I'm out of a job!! You should want to pay more!"
I'm sorry guy, were you volunteering to take a paycut when the prices were reaching record highs to help makes things more affordable? I didn't think so.
The guy complaining about this is usually your typical Walton and Johnson listener that posts pictures of his pay stub bitching about all of the taxes he's paying going to free loaders. But when it affects you, hey you're all for people subsidizing your income.
Again I completely understand the effect it's having on the whole, but trying to make people feel bad about it is stupid. There's nothing I can do about it, so I'm not going to apologize for filling up at a cheaper cost.

Then you must not have been in the market the last 8 years. Mine has steadily increased before last year.

I don't think you understand how it works. It is a long term game and nobody in their 20s or 30s should be too concerned.

Won't be retiring for 20 years so I'm appreciating buying the market at a discount too.
I bet your retired dad and uncles are excited for you.

If the price of gas really effects your life, you are doing it wrong (excluding price of oil effecting your job. 1.50 vs 3.00 per gallon shouldn't really matter)

Better enjoy the spending money while you can, because the economy is gonna crash soon since a few thousand oil field baws lost their jobs

Steadily? I think you are lying. Mine have shown consistent gains prior to last year, but nothing too noteworthy or anything to brag about.

Unless its a F250 or F350 I don't care. If it is one of those two models of Truck then I say ![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/Iconcheers.gif)

I'm 35 years out so I am with you and it's really not losing money until you sell but still sucks to see it down that much. And of course I probably won't have a job soon but such is life. It will come back. Always does.

i agree
but for many families a couple extra hundred bucks a month is a lot of money

Uh, even if you put 10 gallons in your car twice a week you are talking about saving $1,500 a year with zero effort. Not sure anyone would turn down that deal except for the oilfield trash.

Three years ago my 401k was up 22%, two years ago it was up 8%, last year it was flat. Can't remember any further back but you realize the Dow was at 6k in 2009 and it went up above 18k last year. That's triple in an 7 year span. I call that pretty good.

Just saw in Missouri the average price for a gallon of gas is now at $1.11 a gallon and that was before today's spectacular oil plunge being priced in.
