Three years ago my 401k was up 22%, two years ago it was up 8%, last year it was flat. Can't remember any further back but you realize the Dow was at 6k in 2009 and it went up above 18k last year. That's triple in an 7 year span. I call that pretty good.
Being 27 I got in during the recovery. The last few years have been mild to slow gains prior to this past year. Going back to 2008 and 2009 likely was a huge difference.

I'm not going to apologize for filling up at a cheaper cost.
well I don't think you should. But before you start a thread about it and commence doing cartwheels over your windfall, maybe you should think of the bigger picture:
quote:
Louisiana loses about $12 million every time the average price of oil drops by a dollar. The December state revenues report from the Louisiana Treasury showed the state has collected $260 million in severance taxes tied to oil and gas extraction since July 2015, the start of the state's fiscal year. That is a 43 percent -- or $193 million -- decrease compared with last year.
considering JBE is convening the legislature to (in all likelihood) raise our taxes and cut funding for, oh probably everything, perhaps you should consider that the $10-$20 you just saved will probably wash against higher taxes or increased expenses for things like tuition, license fees, etc. While its nice to save on fuel, celebrating it (under current economic conditions) is like celebrating a day off for a hurricane. While the day off is nice, the resulting damage may make you wish you'd never had it.
just food for thought.

Nice. Hopefully this means everyone will start driving a lot more and the oil price will go back up. An oilfield baw can dream, anyway

But Louisiana is in a recession.............

People don't look past that extra $20 in their wallet to notice all that other mumbo jumbo

I have to run 93, but can fill my 19 gallon tank for around 35 from e

JBE should just make the state work-week 4 days per week with Wednesday's off. This will save the taxpayers hundreds of millions alone.

When's all that supposed to start? It's like a secret agreement or something.

OP has about 15 downvotes. I've noticed that everyone of these types of threads gets about that many. The majority of us realize this is awesome.
I thought we'd have more than 15 oilfield baws on this site.

I literally said several times I get that. But what do you want people to do about it? Go to the cashier, hand her an extra $20, and tell her to send it to Exxon on your behalf?

Cheers to more spending money
Consumer spending was actually down Q4 2015.
I guess you'll be saving that or spending it on your crazy expensive health care premiums.

Wait you don't buy high and sell low? Great time to be buying when everyone else is selling and panicking.

I don't think you understand how it works. It is a long term game and nobody in their 20s or 30s should be too concerned.
I don't think you realize how it works. You will never recover a loss in your 401k. The money has disappeared.
Now, you can return a higher percentage and make up the ground, but the loss still happened.
I am not saying that an investment is not without risk, I am simply stating that you are ok with losing on your 401k while bragging about saving $20 is comical.
Also, examine your options instead of a 401k. I didn't realize how much I was costing myself year over year.

but then they'd only get about two days of actual work done.
then again, that may not be a bad thing.

Congrats to you OP.
I got laid off and I'm eating cat food.
But I'm happy for you.
