[excluding war/battle]

Has anyone felt their life was truly threatened, perhaps you were cornered (real or metaphorically), and your body and mind went into "fight or flight" mode?

If so, what is your story?

I grew up in rural LA. And like most places in rural LA, I grew up near white trash that loved them some meth or whatever other drugs that could afford.

Straight through the woods from our house lived a family that had an entire "compound" and they were your typical white trash family.

Anyways, they also had a deaf mute son, who we caught on several occasions spying on us from the woods.

One day, while I was in the woods, I stumbled upon him walking on our property lighting small trees/bushes on fire with a lighter.

I yelled at him (of course he couldn't hear me), so I had to run up to him and push him.

He turned around and shoved a pistol in my face.

I ran. I don't think I have ever ran faster.

That same kid is now rotting in jail for life for murdering his g/f and dumping her in a ditch near my parents house.

I've come close a few times. I've been shot, shot at on more than one occasion. Thwarted murder plots. I'm glad i live a peaceful life now.

Just curious, how would you describe the feeling of surviving a gunshot wound.

Many white folks in Baton Rouge and New Orleans have experienced this.

I've never been shot at, or had a gun pointed anywhere close to me, so I'm not sure if I've ever really experienced the sensation. Last night I believe someone tried to break into my house (see thread) and my adrenaline was pumping, but that's the same as when I see a deer bow hunting.

That being said, I've never backed down from a fight. I've had my arse beat before, but was never in fear of my life.

In college, drunk and trying to get some Rally's at 2am. Car drives by with guy yelling frick you and flipping us off. The dumbass pulled into the house across the street. I ran over to confront him and he ran inside and came out with a gun and machete. Me being drunk said "if you shoot me you better kill me". My friends tried to drag me away but I wanted to beat the guys arse. Next thing I know about 10-15 cops were jumping the fence and drawing down on the guy. Found out later he was tripping on shrooms.

Mine wasn't in a fight or having a gun pulled on me or anything of that nature. When I was 17 I was driving home from work and my parent live in the middle of nowhere on a lake when I was ran off the road by what I assume was a drunk driver who was in my lane when I was coming around a sharp curve. I swerved to the right to avoid contact and being an inexperienced driver I snatched the whee to get back on the pavement thus fish tailing and rolling my truck a couple of time and landing in a creek upside down. I could not get the doors to open and started to panic that I was going to drown even though I was only in about two feet of water. I was finally able to bust out the back window and climb out. I then had to walk about two miles to my parents house (this was 99 before cell phones were prevalent and you could actually get service). The adrenaline rush for those few minutes was quite intense.

no. I've had a pistol pointed between my eyes point blank and was calm and collected.

Was kidnapped as a kid (7 years old) and held hostage for 72 hours by a mentally challenged 18 year old who lived a block away. He beat my arse pretty good and the fireman and police found me in the attic with no shirt on and duct tape on my mouth and my hands. Had welts all over my back and face; fortunately nothing permanent. No sexual assault thankfully.

I was in real danger and IMO am very fortunate to be alive. CSB I know, but it's a true story.
