This is an absolutely ridiculous argument. Basic pay doesn't even come close to the total compensation package a military member receives.
And a Private in the army works just 40 hours a week?
This is what a E-1 really makes including everything LINK
$37,140.60
So are you now going to argue that a burger flipper should make close to the same pay?
If you are a burger flipper and cant support you family because you took a teenagers job then why are you not joining the military if they have it so much better?

Because being in the military is hard work and working at McDonalds isn't?

That's one year of experience, and they can earn more rather quickly. Especially if they have a tour of duty.
Once again, the military still provides numerous benefits that are difficult to quantify.
Regardless, aside from "defending our freedom," an Army Private is a lot like a fast food worker. They are low skilled "workers." However, like I previously said they have much greater opportunities for advancement. Much of this also stems from receiving specialized training. Additionally after a few years of service they become eligible for the GI Bill and other academic grants.
An E1 in the military is in a much better place in life than someone cooking fries at Burger King with no hope of furthering their education.

And on that day, the country will become a little less obese and perhaps a tad bit healthier.

I have a friend that always says "Who knew the guy that created Beavis and Butthead could predict the future so well?"

I say as I do in every one of these threads. Anyone over the age of 30 that is working as a fry cook is doing so because they want to. McDonalds et al will practically beg you to go into a management program if you show the slightest bit of work ethic and responsibility.

The real problem isn't that these employees aren't earning a living wage at a fast food restaurant. I understand the need to be able to work a job and support your family. The issue is that these people either don't have the skills to earn more money, or they simply do not have the work ethic. While both can be taught, the latter is more of a cultural phenomenon. Much of this can be boiled down to education and taking advantage of opportunities.
The fact of the matter is that these morons (and the ones supporting the raised minimum wage) just want to be paid more to do the bare minimum. They don't actually want to do anything to earn a higher salary, they just want to be given a higher salary simply on the basis that it is "fair".
I do like the fact that they are unionized though. Since when does working at Burger King constitute skilled labor?
I hope they keep bitching. And I hope the leftist politicians keep fighting for them. Eventually we will get almost full automation at these places and the efficiency and quality to price ratio will be at all time highs!!!!

That will free up some positions but someone still has to assemble the burger that is ordered via automation.

So, therefore, extra incentive is needed to recruit to the harder job. Glad we agree that fast food workers shouldn't make $15/hour.

Looking for a job making more than minimum wage seems a bit more useful than complaining about it. But that is just what people have come to, do nothing and bitch.

I would be perfectly happy walking into a fast food place and touching a screen to finish my order.
There's a convenience store called WaWa that some of you may be familiar with if you've ever spent much time in the mid to north atlantic states (they're everywhere in NJ). They have delicious subs there that you order with a screen and don't talk to anyone. Almost any extra or variant of the sub you can think of is an option. Very fast service and people love it.

What's funny is many of them will stop showing up for work because they would make too much money to continue to get their government assistance. They just want to hit their 12k faster than they did the last year so they don't have to work as much.

So the person flipping a burger is incapable of joining the military? If its such a better life then why are they not doing just that?

Nope. This automated burger maker can produce ~400 burgers/hr at a success rate of over 95% all while making special meat blends made to order.
It could pay for itself in saved labor in about a year.
