If only the striking workers had known what they would be paid when they took the job and if only they had the right to quit and seek a higher - paying job elsewhere...
Oh, wait. This isn't China.

Fast-food workers, already a potent political force,

The funny thing is with the wage was moved to 15 an hour. I'm pretty sure the current workers would be fired and replaced with better workers. Hell for 15 bucks an hour working fast food does not sound too bad.
Not too mention If the wage went up, so would their welfare, free housing, and they would actually be paying taxes

I would be perfectly happy walking into a fast food place and touching a screen to finish my order.
I don't need to talk to anyone

Yet there is no outcry because of this
LINK
Fast food burger flippers would make 31k a year.
But an army private makes 8.80 an hour IF they only worked 40 hours.
BTW what about the people that live in areas with college degrees that only make 31k-40k a year now? All of a sudden they make min wage??? Do they get a pay bump? Nope.. My wife made 32k with years of experience in BR with a college degree. Some fields just pay shite.

Really is ridiculous. My wife makes less than $35k as a teacher in private school

Oh no's! You mean I might have to eat something healthy instead of a burger on strike day?

Any Chick fil A employees striking?
The only people I've seen working at Chic-Fil-A beyond college age are managers and old grandma's. Fast food type jobs were meant to be entry level jobs for kids in school. It's crazy that flipping burgers have become a career.
Meanwhile, Hispanics are making bank working construction and service jobs that require few if any skills. They often live very frugally, and often save money by sharing homes with multiple generations.
The real problem isn't that these employees aren't earning a living wage at a fast food restaurant. I understand the need to be able to work a job and support your family. The issue is that these people either don't have the skills to earn more money, or they simply do not have the work ethic. While both can be taught, the latter is more of a cultural phenomenon. Much of this can be boiled down to education and taking advantage of opportunities.

This is an absolutely ridiculous argument. Basic pay doesn't even come close to the total compensation package a military member receives.

We need to be converting community colleges into trade schools.

Um, that salary doesn't include housing and other benefits that typical civilian jobs do not include.

Even that is a bit too late. High Schools in underperforming districts need a greater emphasis on trades.
Can't make above a 2.5 GPA? Then you get to learn how to weld. Welders actually make really good money.

Welders make a lot, and I mean a lot, of money. Plumbers. AC installation all of those trades are very solid professions now that everyone wants to be white collar.

LOL at fast food workers thinking they are in any position to negotiate their wages.
