It does seem our experience was anecdotal. Glad we were able to get a little peace and quiet.
Were you in Florida near private beach areas?
We had a good experience in early June staying in Sea Grove, FL. Our public access was nestled between two large sections of private beach areas. Most of the rich folks weren’t there. There was a parking lot that filled up quickly, but we were able to snag a spot each day.
The more walkable public beach access spots were really, really crowded.
Ours was sparse.

The 65 corridor has certainly not been slow. Used to be mostly Indiana, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois and the usual southeast suspects. Now it's flooded with New York, California and the huge mass of Nashville traffic perpetually headed south.
The other coasts are too expensive now, I guess.

I have a condo reserved in mid August. Don't like the crowds. Most schools in the area start then.
But if I really want a vacation, I go to the Mountains, that's less people. Just don't tell anyone.

Great analogy
Was in Destin last week and a redneck group near us were all wearing bands around their ankles. We finally asked what it was and they said it put out a high pitched sound to keep sharks away. But I bet they make fun of people who wore Covid masks

I live in Gulf Shores.
Occupancy down 25% this yr, 40% from peak of 2021.
People still here in droves though.

I think you got lucky. I went to lunch in Foley yesterday and 59 was backed up for miles south of I-10, as were many alternate roads. Wish I would've stayed home
Yep
I went to the beach in trumps last year of his term and there was nobody there
Really shows how strong Biden’s economy is

No doubt. Fuqing mentally ill are the majority these days. They will also fight you to be first in line at the “feeding troughs”. They certainly won’t surrender the left lane while going 70 and texting

Hopefully people have wised up and started taking real vacations this year.
I don’t get this mindset. Do you really want everyone overrunning the places you like to go? I sure don’t.

Plenty of places to travel to in this world. I doubt it would be noticeable if 50% of the panhandle crowd went somewhere else.

Emerald Isle NC. Not much of a crowd and the locals including a lady from Dollar General said this weekend wasn't busy compared to usual.

Rentals are down 25% in OBA and Gulf Shores. Rentals companies are lowering rates though so it's brought in a lot more dog shite people this summer though. One of my customers had a guy sneak in a dog a few weeks ago and it tore up all his furniture.

Lake Martin had the fewest people I’ve ever seen on the week of Independence Day.

I mean I don’t know if I want to take my chances with some of them.
And I will happily tolerate them on the panhandle occasionally.

The travel industry is very much back and rebounding well. People are traveling, but your experience may vary based on what kind of trip you have. For example, right now the cruise industry is absolutely booming. For years, people had to postpone or cancel international travel, cruises, etc., and many defaulted to just a beach getaway along the Gulf coast for looser Covid restrictions And lenient cancellation policies. Many of those travelers have resumed those international plans. They had postponed the last few years.

In Seagrove right now, share a private beach with other condos…. It’s pretty packed… can’t set up a tent either on this private beach either, only umbrellas…public’s down the beach are much worse. OP must have gone to holly
