This is a depressing thread.

If we are in a committed relationship for 30 years, we raise kids for 20 of that and we treat each other with love and respect and care for our kids as any married couple would, why does a court document make or break my parenting?
It doesn't.
But statistically, you are more likely to break up more than a married couple.
Marriage puts that little extra will to stay in the relationship. That is the "security" part.

Marriage is dumb and more times than not ends poorly. Will never do it but good luck to those clowns who did

Well then

White Catholic guy here in the 75k-100k bracket.
No intentions of getting married anytime soon.

I'm not going to be pissed, but you sure as hell would be when probate time comes around. Don't get mad, get even.

You forgot to add selfish to your list of qualifications.

I think your statement assumes overlap that the statistics do not necessarily bear out.

100 things
feminist ideals proliferating into the urban mindset of many higher SES women
more rational decision making (if you don't have kids, no reason for a higher SES male to get married)
religious factors do play a role (i just don't think they're a major part)

Why do you care. Why doesn't your daughter just go find somebody else if it's such a raw deal for her?

see I just think these are byproducts of a less religious society

Clear to anyone reading this thread the only person who is "selfish" is you.
You'd rather your daughter be with some good old 'baw who will marry her, spray in them guts and have her pump out a couple of children like Jesus wants rather than an educated, modern man who will take care of and respect her.
Done responding to you.

I'd rather my daughter be with a man that understands the benefits of marriage and be more concerned with those implications than the implications of the marriage failing

When it all comes down to it you're right. Thats all that matters. I would only prefer the other option.
There's also that whole huge savings I get by not having to pay for a wedding in your case, so that is a pro.
