They most likely get more benefits for not being married.

It's such a short-sighted equation, though.

poor people/the underclass aren't getting married and their share of the population is growing

marriage is a behavior of the middle class and up, these days

because middle class and up understand the benefits of marriage with raising a child

but I do believe that the overall trend of younger generations being less religious is having an affect as well, as there is less pressure to get married for that reason alone

in the past, the poor/underclass would still get married due to the religious pressure, now they don't have that

I'm a young guy (Over/Under 30)

I've been in a committed relationship for 6 years now.

I have explained to her and to her family that I think marriage is a terrible deal for a man.

I take care of my significant other. I buy her new tires for her vehicle when she needs. We live together. I buy her food. I take care of her.

I will not marry her. Even if we have kids. The benefit to me is non-existent so why would I ever consider it? A small break on my taxes? No thanks, about a million other ways to get that which don't involve mortgaging my future income. I work too hard for that.

Maybe the reason less people are getting married is because they have seen so many failed marriages from previous generations.

Love and religion do not have to go hand in hand.

I'm sure it's a factor as well.

Of course it doesn't.

I have no idea what point you are trying to make.

I am a college educated, healthy male who makes a great salary and is from a stable family who provides "your daughter" with everything she wants or needs. I respect her, I help with her school, I push her to succeed and on top of all that, I truly love her.

You're going to be "pissed" because I refuse to sign binding legal documents that only benefit her and put me in a compromising position and incentive her to leave me in the future?

Every single study will tell you that kids that are raised in a married household have more general success in life than those that don't.

Could yours be outliers? Of course. But there are obvious benefits to the structure and security when raising children.

Im arguing against your statement that the reason less people are getting married is because they are less religious than previous generations.

I don't believe that has anything to do with it.

When the coffers run out. When the debt comes due. When the fighting starts.

Once civility begins to break down and the thin veneer of society shatters the world will begin its swift return to the old ways.

Blood and fire shall be the order of the day. Only power shall prevail.

You don't sound all that "committed". You're ensuring future failure by placing money first. Why have kids with a woman you are not willing to marry?

This is the only part that matters.

There is nothing the actual "marriage' provides that improves structure and security.

If we are in a committed relationship for 30 years, we raise kids for 20 of that and we treat each other with love and respect and care for our kids as any married couple would, why does a court document make or break my parenting?

There is NO benefit to the marriage. There is a benefit to being a responsible adult who is committed to their SO and children.

Generally, I do not disagree with what you are saying, but your kids will be bastards.

I am not willing to marry ANYONE. Man. Woman. Dog. Alien.

Marriage is an awful deal for the "man" / breadwinner.
