It's not about simply putting them to bed and letting them cry though. It's about the routine as a whole.
Crying for prolonged periods of time raises cortisol levels in infants, and you eventually get to the point where the stress alone keeps the infant awake.
If someone has a child that cries for 2 straight hours, I'd suggest talking to your pediatrician.

I swear baby monitors are the worst inventions. When I was a baby there were no monitors and I guarantee my mom didn't hear all of my crying. What she didn't know didn't gnaw away at her and didn't harm me.

Babies cry for a reason.
I love the loser-think of the W-2 employee who is worried about his/her beauty sleep so he/she can play on tigerdroppings at work all day.
You brought them into this world so it wouldn’t kill you to hold your damn kid.

My kids are in their teens. Babies are tough when they are at an age when it's hard to get them to sleep on their own, but you just have to work through it. I treasure the time that I was able to spend with my kids when they were babies and I had to rock and sing them to sleep.

After numerous times,when you walk in and they stop crying you start getting the hint that the little shits just want attention. When its 10pm and they dont want to go to bd, its time to close the door and let them cry themselves to sleep no matter what. Eventually after a few hours they are flat worn out. It sucks but they will get the hint. If everytime they cry you have to hold them , they are in control. Learn them early.

It is worth a few bad nights. Now the kid knows when he is in bed it’s time to sleep. When the first one was going through it he didn’t cry he banged on the door ,but done learned it was bed time . Made our life and theirs easier, no drama at night. They both go to bed at “bedtime” and only want story time and kisses.

My daughter had colic, or whatever it was that doctors said caused excessive crying. We let her cry herself to sleep many nights; but would hold her walking or rock g a while if was excessive. Didn't know the term Ferberization back then even though I was a Psch grad in LSU MBA school.
She turned out to be a perfectly normal, nice, thoughtfull, educated 5th grade teacher; her only flaw is marrying an Alabama man....
