he put his fence 8 inches back onto his property
Why would he do that?

Forgot to ask if you're neighbor's neighbors on the other side and behind him have fences and, if so, do they tie into his or are do they have the 8 inch gap between as yours will?
No houses behind ours there's a ditch. House on the other side just moved in too they haven't gotten a fence yet

His problem, not yours.
I understand this sentiment. But the issue is that OP does indeed have a problem, because the yard will look like shite, and the grass in between rot out his fence.

Dude. You're gonna have a hard time in life if you're having such a hard time figuring this out. Who gives a frick how he's gonna mow his 8 inches between your fence wall and his? Build your fence on your property lines and that's a wrap. shite.
see above
it's really not hard to see why this would be an issue for OP
if neighbor douche doesn't maintain the 8 inches, the. yard. will. look. like. complete. shite.
shite.

that little gap is gonna be tall as shite with weeds. Then, frickhead neighbor is gonna spray weed killer, which will likely hit some of OPs yard.

My picture was more so meant to be a joke. That op would build his fence and have it be very close to the neighbors, but not actually touch it. Then raise the portion over the neighbor's yard so that the fence doesn't contact his ground property either.
Maybe its only comical to me.

Not if he builds a brick fence.

Just politely ask him how he plans on cutting the 8" of grass without stepping on your property!

Fences don't determine the property lines.

Does she still complain to you?

BIG FALSE. Been to court on this. Not talking 8", but ac's.

quote:Nope. I installed an outdoor security camera in my backyard that sees the top of the fence. She knows it's there. I told the HOA guy to warn her that if she did it again my recording would be used to file a complaint with the police.
She still looking over and yelling from the ladder?

You round up the 8 inches. Anything else?

Perhaps he put his fence 8 inches back to be sure that it wouldn't be close to touching your fence... who cares about the reasoning. It's his house and his fence so he can do it how he wants. Sounds like he wanted to let you know he came back on his own property line so you would be aware he wanted a little space between the fences, and also that you didn't assume those 8 inches were yours. Sounds like he's just communicating... a great need in a good relationship. Don't let your fence touch his... don't cut grass in between. His problem. It more than likely will not effect your life. This answer seems obvious.
Someone who actually gets it.
Why did he put the fence 8inches inside his property line? Doesn't matter. Odd but doesn't matter.

I'm thinking the same fricking thing. God forbid that you communicate with him on it - he's only your neighbor. He probably just means "don't tie into it because it's 8" on his side.

Put in a fence at the property line that is six inches taller than his. Make sure the color is not the same.
