Jackson Hewitt services in Walmart is considered a “firm”?

I'm on my own and I work 50ish hours year round.
Back when I was a manager in a firm, I tried everything I could to hold my team to no more than 55-60 hours a week. Anything more than that, and you are simply not effective. You may be putting in the hours, but you ain't doing a good job, and you are just making stupid mistakes. Especially if you are working 60+ hours for weeks on end.

LOL. I'll say this. Every conference I've been to in this profession, if there is a happy hour with free booze, people slam them back unlike any other group I've ever seen.

65-70 a week through 3/15. 45 a week through 4/15. Then I’m not doing shite for a few months. In the end, it averages out to less than 40 a week by the end of the year.

Do CPA's hate their job as much as Slippy hates his?

Oddly enough in my profession the 2 business owners/professions I deal with who love their jobs and are usually cool as hell are attorneys and CPAs. Go figure.

Public accounting is for suckers. Get out while you’re young and move to industry.
Best decision I’ve ever made.
This, all day, everyday. Started in industry and have worked past 6pm maybe 5 times in the last 13 years.

Shots are the devil. I sign away all liability if shots begin.

Worked between 55-65 usually.
I put 6 years in public accounting and learned a ton. Moved to industry making more money and am on cruise control all year around.

Wife is big 4 and they have been told to expect 75+ hours and weekends right now. 1099s are apparently a fricker.
She’s been snowed in at home (Houston) and working all day and night in the office.

Big 4, 2.5 years. First two years billable hours were >3,000, worked probably 3,300. Had 4 fiscal year ends in a calendar year. 12/31, 3/31, 6/30, and 10/31. After year 2, was recruited to work for one of my clients. First two weeks there I worked maybe 35 hours. Proceeded to enjoy life afterwards and have ever since. Frick public accounting if you aren't on the road to partner by the time you are manager. Haven't seen many people jump at manager where, when they jump, they land in a job that one of the juniors couldn't handle.

Did 8 years in big 4. Left as a manager. As an associate I probably did 60 during busy season. As a senior 65 or 70. As a manager it is non stop. 80 to 90 was not unreal 50-60 for direct client stuff and another 20 or 30 selling, doing performance reviews, and all sorts of other bs.
That said I loved Big 4, and if I weren't out on my own now, I'd go back in a second.

Not in public anymore, but was B4 tax for a few years and generally did 60 or so January and February, 55s through March, 50-60 August and September. Random spikes in work on transactions, or other one off type projects throughout the year.
In industry now, but it's financial services so the hours are better than public but not great
