we have been holding back doses to make sure people will have the 2nd dose, but there is now evidence that maybe the 2nd dose isn't as necessary as once thought

this should speed up the process

Well they damn sure better have enough for the second dose because that is how the vaccines were designed and trialed. Are you following the story of that nursing home in NY where a bunch of vaccinated residents are dying of Covid. Many are saying that the first dose alone is not enough. Lots of people are just shooting from the hip here.

Selfishly, I'm not crazy about this. My parents got their first Moderna shot last week and I want the second round to be available to them on schedule.

this one? LINK

looks like the spread happened before vaccinations began and you are not immediately protected as soon as you are vaccinated

who is? because from what I've seen, the exact opposite is happening

Look at Alex Berenson's twitter feed. He's all over it.

Quickly down the rabbit hole:

quote:

1/ Let's be clear: those cheery health-care workers saying you should be glad to feel awful after you get a dose or two of the mRNA vaccines because that negative response shows your body is making antibodies and protecting itself from #sarscov2 are telling a half-truth (barely).
2/ In reality, much of the fevers and other immune responses come as the body attacks the lipid envelope protecting the vaccine RNA - and that IN NO WAY helps prime your immune system to recognize the coronavirus. It is a side effect pure and simple...
3/ What proportion of the side effects come from the body's response to the newly created coronavirus spikes (good, at least theoretically) and what proportion from the lipids or other features of the vaccine molecule (bad under any circumstance)?

We don't know...
4/ And why don't we know? Because at WARPPPP SPEEEED there's no time for knotty questions like those. And if
@moderna_tx
or
@pfizer
know, they ain't saying.

Ancedotal is anecdotal, but my antibodies were giraffe pussy high only 14 days after first Pfizer shot

Doctor said higher than most people that had natural infection

They were limited to 70 and older until this morning. So if you have a comorbidity (diabetes, lung disease, COPD, obesity, etc.), or if you are older than 65, you should try to make an appointment now.
This is a federal guideline/recommendation. It is still up to the states to implement.

New York probably makes you fill out 17 forms, recite every US Vice President, and do the Macerena before getting the shot.

when do we think we will start seeing the vaccines start to make a different in the country in regards to hospitalizations and deaths

Deaths are the only metric that really matters. I am honestly not concerned if my college aged kid tests positive. There is almost no chance of death for someone that age in good health.

If the vaccine works, then we should be able to return to a normal life in short order.

I have followed this guy for months now. He modeled infections and deaths as reported pretty well.

He now has a herd immunity model that updates as information comes in. He has herd immunity currently kicking in at late June. Of course, we should see benefits before then which is also modeled.

I think there is some reason to be optimistic about distribution. I think we're soon nearing 1 million vaccinated a day and we've inoculated 1/3 of the world's total. Some states are blowing it but this rollout is relatively doing well compared to other countries. We've doubled the rate to 700k since last the week before.

The pessimism should be how long restrictions stay in place when it's obvious we're doing better. I am not thrilled there.

Looks like Johnson and Johnson will have their data ready to submit to the FDA in about two weeks. The claim to be able to manufacture 1billion doses by the end of the year. Also LA has had a substantial increase in vaccinations.
