FedEx has closed facilities and started subcontracting deliveries out. They will eventually completely fold and file for bankruptcy. I would not ship with FedEx. As OP stated, if you can purchase from buyers and choose not to use FedEx I would highly recommend.

Thanks a lot. I’m expecting a FedEx delivery today. Way to queer the deal.

In my area, FedEx is by far the most reliable carrier. USPS is the worst and UPS just seems to take a lot longer than FedEx. I guess it's different in different areas.
It's definitely different in different areas.
USPS is by far the best for my business. Packages are perhaps late but almost never totally lost like often happens with UPS and FED EX and are also a whole lot cheaper.
FED EX is the worst. Fed Ex drivers lose money if they have to return to redeliver a package since Fed Ex has some kind of "subcontractor" arrangement to basically rip them off corporate style.
Some Fed Ex drivers will make an effort but a lot of them will basically just leave the package anywhere, safe or not, to get rid of it.

I got an email from FedEx last week on Friday morning: Your package is out for delivery a day early!
It got delivered Monday.

I shipped a pallet box with 4000 lbs of chlorine valves in it... FedEx lost it somewhere in Texas.

I ordered one of those newest generation robot wives from China. It shipped with DHL about a week ago. It has since disappeared, but no worries! I'm sure she will get ran through, pimped out and show up in 2 years on my doorstep with a robot kid and a Marlboro in her mouth.

I shipped about 40k in equipment in 4 separate boxes up to Canada for repairs via FedEx last Friday and it arrived on Monday in Red Deer, Alberta. A local shipper wanted to charge over 6k to ship via freight. I would drive there myself if I had the time and patience. Luckily the manufacturer that the equipment was being shipped to can get much better rates, so they handled the shipping and customs.

I think it's just your local FDX. The FDX is perfectly fine in The Woodlands area but UPS sucks here.

They’ve always done this for all ground deliveries
It’s how they avoid unions that plague ups

FedEx delivers packages to the wrong addresses all of the time in Lafayette. I try to avoid sellers that use them, they're awful.

They subcontract out everything. Just like Amazon. But for some reason, Amazon has it figured out for final mile.
UPS is still the goat. They have well paid drivers who seem to give a shite

They have a Union. Course the OT will shite on having an employment contract like coaches and professional athletes have. It’s weirdly hypocritical.

Not as good like they used to be

I have only had one package have some sort of major issue with FedEx. Even on that one, it was communicated with me in a timely manner and it was clear when the delivery would actually be made. It really wasn't their fault either since they were dealing with and ice storm in San Antonio where the package originated.
I cannot say that UPS or USPS are better because I have had multiple issues with both of them. Neither one handles screw ups as good as FedEx did with me. I have more issues with them than FedEx.

Unions have a time and a place IMO. In a safety sensitive type of role I’m all for it. Airline pilots, truck drivers, doctors, nurses, etc.

Shipped an item from Colorado to Memphis via USPS on July 8th.
Arrived October 10th. Zero updates, zero communication provided on where-abouts, zero tracking to what state, city, town, truck, bar code, anything.
There's always a bigger shitshow. Trust me.
