McKesson
I'm pretty sure this is the company that actually distributes meds to the pharmacies. They don't make any drugs as far as I know, but the discrepancy in the amounts of pills they were moving to pharmacies in towns with similar sized populations is crazy.
I cant look up the specific numbers right now, but I remember seeing a 60 minutes episode about a pharmacy in WV that was catering to pain clinics in the area and holy shite, McKesson absolutely knew something was up in certain places they delivered to and said nothing to anyone.

The government told hospitals they weren’t going to get paid unless they “treated pain” and “pain is the fifth vital sign”. Now the government is investigating others for doing what they wanted
Sounds awfully similar to a recent housing bubble

Just laughable.
80’s crack epidemic is dismissed because it primarily affects urban areas. No one forced them to smoke crack, those people just need self control, accountability, etc.
But Redneck Ronnie gets hooked on pain killers and suddenly Big Pharm is under criminal investigation.

Why would they and why should they?

I'm sure opioid producers do have some culpability
But I hate this dumb cycle where government allows and encourages people/corporations to do something, benefits from it, takes money resulting from it, elected officials serve the interests of said people/companies in exchange for contributions derived from it...
And then when there is public outcry, the DOJ and others are now suddenly sanctimonious and outraged and will get to the bottom of this threat to our societal health.

You think this is about race?
The crack epidemic wasn’t dismissed, a frick ton of people went to jail over it.

Supposed white supremacists aren’t the only people that use code words and broad generalizations to insinuate racial bias
Ive seen this argument before that the only reason people care about opioids is that it’s impacting white people, where they didn’t give a shite that crack impacted blacks.
It’s a bull shite argument and meant to further divide people

You don't think distributors of huge amounts of Schedule II drugs should keep tabs on where they go?
Posted on 11/26/19 at 1:34 pm to Obtuse1
Keep tabs yes, but report “suspicious volumes” now there is a slippery slope

Of course they have records, but why would they feel the need to report anything that seems suspicious? What would a distributor know what even qualifies as "suspicious"?

She doesn't deal with the opioids thankfully, they manufacture a different drug that the company is not being sued for. And she is currently trying to get out.

Is she a sales rep? If so, congrats on the hot wife.

paying doctors to prescribe opioid based painkillers
Do people really believe doctors get paid to prescribe medicine? I can never tell if they're being serious, or if it's just the easy way to lay blame.

Outside of being required to report to DEA for the ARCOS database and to flag suspicious transactions there is also the common-sense desire to prevent your drugs from being sold illicitly.
While I am not sure what the guidelines for suspicious transactions are when you are sending a Mom and Pop pharmacy a 100,000 Oxy and over the same time period that dwarfs the volume of all the other drugs shipped to them combined you may be looking at a suspicious transaction.
There is plenty of blame/responsibility to be spread around here but not holding everyone in the chain responsible for there part isn't very logical to me.

Are you suggesting doctors don't get compensation in multiple ways for prescribing certain meds or using certain appliances?

Not really anymore. Drug manufacturers are required to report any compensation to the government, and this information is publicly available on a website. You won't find anything crazy in this database.

Some of the 6 digit speaking fees and the like have been curtailed but significant compensation is still alive and well.
