The government told hospitals they weren’t going to get paid unless they “treated pain” and “pain is the fifth vital sign”.

Now the government is investigating others for doing what they wanted

Wrong. The government mandated it.

Many doctors have been busted for writing scripts for opioids to patients suffering from twisted ankles, stomach pains, etc. You really think the pharmaceutical companies had no influence in this decision to get as many people hooked as possible in the 2000's?

Must be nice to have your head buried so far in the sand and believe these companies aren't the biggest drug dealers in the history of this world.

This is exactly what happened because I was working in health care when it started. Everyone knew that it was a mistake but the government pushed it right up everyone's asses. Dr's could not refuse to comply with it. This action alone exposed millions of Americans to opiates.
frick our government for that and now even more for acting like the manufacturers are the bad guys.

Yep. I don’t know why you and me are getting downvoted it’s easily verifiable information what the joint Commission did in 2001 and that opiate use skyrocketed after that.

Could you show me that mandate? I'm genuinely interested because my wife is a physician and we've talked about when and how she prescribes opiates. Government mandates never came up.

People don’t want to hear the truth and they certainly won’t take personal responsibility. Evil Corporations are always the easy target for blame.

Unless they're gonna go after the FDA who approved the drugs or doctors who prescribed them... pointless af. If not, just a glorified PR move because someone must be blamed.

The same thing happened during the housing crisis. Banks at risk of getting penalized for not making loans in low income areas. When they started going belly up, they were criticized for their loose lending standards.
