This new stories sorta lines up somewhat. Smith super heated after someone Rams him, pulls a gun to play hard arse. Wife tries to contain him and during a struggle for the gun it goes off and he shoots her in the right leg. Then Hayes fearing he is going to get shot puts 8 rounds in Smith.
100% Speculation.
The more that comes out about this, I feel like Smith for sure pulled a gun first.

As a local I think its more about people wanting the NOPD exposed for being corrupt.

if he us innocent of murder absolutely. There is more to the story than some innocent saints player gets brutally murdered after a car accident. Smith is a known wife beater with an attitude and an enforcer in the locker room. Its not like smith was some saint (no pun) he was a wife abuser and a pos. If he indeed jumped out with a gun then hayes deserves to defend himself and i 100% support him walking out of jail.

No, people are just wanting the truth, unlike the Saintly Smith Brigade.

this. Why is 'clip" such a trigger word? Every other fricking slang term ever used is just fine, but clip triggers so many people. (--and I get a clip holds bullets together and a magazine contains bullets, thank you)

to be honest after this and reading other accounts, and thinking long and hard about the biggest clue*, I think I'm switching sides. I'm thinking Hayes didn't murder Smith.
* In this city it's not too hard to get away with murder, the police do not solve that many murders. Had it been murder, he could have backed up, parked that car in the hood (better than ditching as someone else will be your patsy) and been done. Instead he waited for the NOPD to arrive. That alone is really something I have been questioning lately.

That would explain why Hayes stayed on the scene.

There is zero doubt to me that Hayes believed it was self defense. Whether his belief matches up with the law is the question to be answered.

I don't want anyone to get off. I want all parties held responsible for their own actions. If Smith did indeed fire first, you think Hayes should spend the rest of his life in prison for murder?

Sean Payton having the gun control rant makes more sense to me if he suspected Smith shot first. He may have been blaming someone for putting the gun in Smith's hands, not Hayes.
I know he mentioned the .45 and all but his first comment is a strong one against having a gun to protect yourself.
“Two hundred years from now, they’re going to look back and say, ‘What was that madness about?’ “ Payton said. “The idea that we need them to fend off intruders … people are more apt to draw them (in other situations). That’s some silly stuff we’re hanging on to.”

I wouldn't get too ginned up about this. Hayes's version of events is certain to be investigated and verified (or discredited), especially since this was all talked about before the grand jury this week. Fuller said weeks ago that he had an anonymous witness who said that Smith had a gun, but would likely not testify. We'll see where this goes.

I think more people are realizing there is way more to the story. If any cover up took place/is in place, it's to defend Smith.
As much as I wanted to see him an innocent victim for his reputation and the sadness surrounding his death, the water is getting murkier as info leaks out.
If Hayes just jumps out car and starts blasting, lock him up, throw away the key. If there was an argument, a threat by Smith of a gun, a reach for his gun or a shot fired by Smith, then Hayes self defense comes into play. It seems the latter is in play.

yeah yeah we know you want this man to fry no matter what. Most of us would prefer to wait and let all the facts come out.

Stop. That's not true at all.
People want this case to be more interesting than it likely is and many are letting their imaginations run wild with the things Fuller is putting out there, almost none of which is substantiated by real evidence. Maybe it will be later on, but based on what we know for certain- the murder 2 charge is the correct charge.
How likely is this story Fuller is selling? An accidental ramming if Smith? Smith shooting his own wife, then drawing down in Hayes? Then a grand police cover up and at least 5 lying witnesses all to save a dead football player's reputation? All backed up by an anonymous witness who won't testify.
How about a 20 something year old with two guns in his car gets into it with a 30 something year old tough guy over a wreck of their high end vehicles and shite escalates and someone ends up dead? That happens all time in America. Jesus, there is a thread on here now about a Florida fan who blasted on some LSU fans for dissing the Gators. Lol

Why would Smith shoot his own wife and then turn his back to the guy he's fighting with and then the guy unloads his gun into his back? None of this shite makes any sense. You can poke holes everywhere no matter what side you're on.

This.
NOPD has been shady in handling situations for quite some time now.
It would be great to just wipe the slate clean and start over. However, there are some decent officers and starting completely over is not feasible.

Exactly. If smith had his gun in hand, shot his wife, how the frick did he end up being shot 7 times in the back and halfway in his suv? It's crazy how quickly people on here change their tune based on some allegation that could be complete bs.
