shite, was planning on skiing this weekend, but I’m fricking snowed in in Rock Springs WY. Going to have to get up early tomorrow to make it back to Denver when I-80 opens again. Missed the window by a half hour to make it back to Denver.

I saw that but didn't share (well I did share the sounding).

If that cold for the end of the month keeps showing up, there are going to be some crazy looking model runs being shared. The words "polar vortex" going to be everywhere.

Happy Hour GFS blasting that 1061 mb Arctic high.

Mid 20s in Flordia.

Looking negative for Huntsville.

That would be an incredible cold snap. And if you see my last edit, happy hour GFS rolling down a 1060+ high out of Canada. It's coming toward a deep cold snap too.

I went looking for record low temperatures for the US and damn, the record low temps in each US state is just incredible. -16 for Louisiana.

ETA - I was looking to establish some kind of perspective on the forecasted temps. Kind of disappointed.

Don't plant shitty palm trees around your double wide, and you wouldn't have that problem. This is Louisiana, not Miami. Palm trees are trashy and a tryhard bat signal

Who the frick said anything about palm trees, you fricking idiot. And “try hard”? How fricking stupid are you?

McNeese is a shithole btw.

Not sure yet but the models have been hinting at this off and on, more on than off, for amount a month now. Chances are it’s going to get quite cold but we obviously won’t know if it’s going to get record shattering cold until a few days before. Even that’s a hit or miss with these types of record events.

FYI: models are starting to entertain the idea of single digit lows down to the coast. And a very dry, powdery light snowfall in south Louisiana with temps in the low 20’s one evening next week. Keep in mind that’s models, not the forecast. But to see them show that this far out is very eyebrow-raising.

To be clear, I just play one on here.

So on the cold, the weather watchers have been waiting on a cold outbreak in the east since like late December. We had what's known as a sudden stratospheric warming event (SSW), and for reasons above my knowledge base it'll typically disrupt the polar vortex and send cold spilling into Europe and the eastern United States. The models are just flashing the signal it's coming.

Basically, the pattern being depicted shows the jet stream dipping way south and letting the polar air find it's way into the eastern US. It's blocked in to the west and the NW Atlantic. Assuming this pattern is what plays out, it'll be cold.

Subzero in Nashville and teens here in SELa? Too early to say with much certainty. We are about to shift into a cold pattern for the next few weeks. The finer details will come into focus as everything progresses, as always.

He's busy giving jjdoc and CptBengal a run for their money on the Political Talk.

Rds is clutch on OT weather threads, obviously, but he's hilarious on the PT IMO.

So now we know you don’t own your own home.
Hint: it’s not that simple, a lot of plants are borderline and can survive typical temperatures but gets questionable as things get extreme.
Clown.

There are a lot of smart people out there with, let's say, entertaining political views.
