Control of what?

Timing? No argument here, I forgot flying all the time because of this
Safety? You’re only minority more in control of that while driving

I basically force myself to not think about it. I'm somewhat nervous. But I refuse to allow my mind to ever consider the worst case scenario while flying. I know if I was to truly let my mind wander, I would probably be a wreck.

This is a broader discussion off the OP’s topic, but I really want to understand this mindset. If I let my mind wander about a topic my imagination starts concocting what I’m going to be doing after everything I’m doing right now goes perfectly well, if not even better than anticipated.

How long have you been a worrier, has worrying ever benefited you?

Most of the time by the time I have made it through security and onto the plane I am about ready to end it all anyhow. I do not mind flying as far as safety or fear of crashing but I truly despise airports and airlines and airplanes and people who work in and around any of the three and about 99% of the people who do business with them. Flying is a horrendous ordeal....getting killed while flying is about as likely as getting killed in your bed...getting pissed off to the point that you die of a cerebral hemorrhage? Highly likely....

Do not like flying at all. I have to see where I am headed or else my anxiety goes through the roof. The old I get the worse it is. Alcohol is my friend on every flight.

Reddit sucks..

As for as the fear of flying. Based on the odds, people should be more scared of riding in a car.

The more I read this thread the more I think people don’t actually fear flying, they fear not being in control. That’s exactly it. And it isn’t illogical, it is human nature.
I don’t, I panic. I want one of those low bpm folks driving my plane. That said I get no nerves with exception to right after takeoff and right before landing. I figure that is the time you are going fast enough to get killed and low enough there isn’t shite to do if something goes wrong.

I fricking love it when the FAs strap in mid flight and you know you're getting the good stuff. It's a roller coaster without the rails.

Never bothered me before. After my baby girl was born I started experiencing some pretty bad travel anxiety the first couple of work trips I took as a Dad, but after those first couple it’s been business as usual. I love everything about a plane trip whether it be for work or pleasure. I love a good layover or arriving early to hang at the bar and talk with other travelers and as it gets closer to boarding time I’ll get the butterflies in my stomach like I’m getting on a roller coaster. It’s awesome.

That’s my problem. I do all the time.

Fortunately, just completed a safe flight. Back in warmer Houston.

My last boss recently died in a plane crash and I still have zero issues with commercial flights.

Helicopters can frick right off though.

What's everyone's thoughts on here?
Any hardleg on here who admits to be a stupid fear of flying should never again post in any of the thousands of threads on here that exist to belittle women. Now, I do believe in said belittling - it's just that I'm not a mentally weak idiot afraid of doing something that's very safe.

I'm not afraid of flying at all. I'm afraid of shitting myself on the plane. Like that lady did a few months ago.

I mean, you never know when you will have that random assplosion and that is my fear. Not of crashes.
