Optimistically, people take their magic shot and they can make it an inflection point in their life where they adopt healthier habits.

Pessimistically, my insurance premiums pay for the shot, they don't change any habits, they balloon right back to their previous weight, and now I'm paying for their foot amputation AND a permanent cycle of Mounjaro.

I hope it's more of the former than the latter.

48 lb average is ridiculous. I would look like an Aushwitz survivor if I dropped 48 lbs.

When you start at 350 and lose 48 lbs you are still fat AF

Yeah but cock size increases rapidly during this time.

If he makes to the stage where he can see his pee pee again, he might just make it.

Forget safety.

The best way to determine the efficacy of weight loss drugs is to do a longitudinal study where they give the drug to a population sample of obese people for 1 year and then wean them off of it to see if the subjects can maintain their weight.

If the subjects maintain their weight for a certain amount of time after they come off the weight loss drug, then it's safe to say that drug is effective.

Apparently for a lot of people it is hard

Seeing you actually make excuses for people with no will power negates a lot of your posting history for me and likely others who read your HF posts.

May as well just go all in and advocate for bulimia.

Exactly. Not even the best weight loss drug will change a person's diet and lifestyle; it's on the person to make the change. This is a short cut, that's all it is. And it's not going to permanently fix the problem.

if someone weighs 400lb they have never cared about their health and will continue to not care about their health

This is false. As a 6'5" 400lb man, I care a lot about my health but I find it overwhelming to deal with. Eating is very much an addiction and much like former heroin addicts, I still think about unhealthy food everyday with the difference being I still have to consume food. Food that I don't really want to eat.(I understand heroin is a much worse addiction than food) That's all to say it's hard and I've been strong enough to lose weight, but not strong enough to keep it off.

As others have said, the benefits outweigh the risks and I think these semaglutide type drugs can jump start better health so people can make better decisions easier.

This concludes my ted talk.

Anyone claiming that?

This thread is vintage OT. On one hand everyone pisses and moans about fatties. Then when fatties have a way to no longer be fatties, the OT pisses and moans about it. Classic.

been around well over a decade for diabetes

A clinical study published in August looked at 15,000 non-diabetic individuals taking GLP-1RA agents.

The conclusions were that the ones deemed most effective for weight loss also had "moderate risk of adverse events."

GLP-1RAs that didn't work as well for weight loss similarly had a lower risk.

Correlation? We probably don't know yet.

But there hasn't been ten years of trials using non-diabetics.

Healthy weight is so important to overall health. I am surprised the medical industry has seeemingly ignored this problem. Perhaps because producing medications to treat the ill effects of obesity is more profitable.
